Camaro vs Firebird Steering Wheels? Are the Camaro steering wheels with radio controls different in terms of diameter than the Trans Am? I have always hated the skinny wheel in the T/A and don't remember that issue in my old 97 Z28. If the later Camaro wheels are the same configuration but larger diameter like the old wheel then it would be a worthwhile swap.
Then I guess the next question would be... does the air bag interchange? The radio controls appear to be identical aside from the color but hard to tell on the airbag just looking at pictures.
The bags interchange. I had a 02 Camaro wheel in my old 95 trans am. The grey pontiac radio controls install the same as well. They are the same controls as Camaro except for color.
You can get this wheel leather wrapped with radio controls out of 95-99 Monte Carlo as well. The ONLY difference is the color, the Monte Carlo version is a true black like the black on the 93-97 Camaro wheels and the 00-02 Camaro version is the really dark grey ebony color.

Agreed but I don't see Camaro guys complaining of the skinny steering wheel and there are a lot more Camaros out there than Firebirds.
The thickness difference is the plastic/foam base-model steering wheel vs the leather wrapped option.
As far as I know, and from everything I've read on the web, there was NOT a change in wheel thickness between Camaro and Firebird. If you're comparing the older style wheels, (93-94 Firebird) or (93-98 Camaro) then I wouldn't know, nor care since those styles were definitely different.

Ive had both wheels side by side. The leather wrapped pontiac version which went in many pontiac cars is thinner than the leather wrapped chevy version that went in a few different chevys.
How about we end it by each measuring our leather wrapped wheels. I have an '02 Z28 with leather wrapped. i'll measure around the top center of the wheel and you measure your birds center top and we'll see.
I have T/A firebird controls in my 02 Camaro. I wanted the red backlit without doing the MOD. They work perfect. I'm unsure of the year T/A it came from. Bought them off eGay...

Circumference: ~4" (10.16cm)
Diameter: ~1.27" (3.23cm)
My math might be a little off (I hated Geometry, so if someone needs to correct it, please do so).
