Default Front Plate

Alright, this should be something I can figure out or something that is intuitive i'm guessing, but bear with me. I need to put a front plate on my T/A as I'm living in Virginia now. Having never put a front plate on before I took the cover off cleaned it out and stuff. Now, there are four holes but they don't seem to me to have nuts set behind them to screw into. So how can I set up the front plate?

I was planning on mounting the plate behind the cover and then just taking the cover off for long road trips or something. I dunno, I'd still like to know how to mount a plate behind the cover.

When I put my plate on.....uggg....uggg....stupid NJ....anyway...I just used license plate bolts from GM and just screwed into the plastic, you don't need any nuts behind it. The cover should fit right back over it.

Well what you could do is put your front plate on and get the clear plastic bird for the front check this link out my Fiance's Ws6 has one on the front http://community.webshots.com/album/115242392gGjhbt . Since the4 police around my area give people problems about the front tag I'm getting one

I can't find anyone who sells that clear front plate though. I heard from someone that the mold was destroyed or something because it had deteriorated so badly. In any case if you can find where to buy them let me know!

BTW, what do you mean by coarse screws?? Sorry, I'm dumb.

I'm also in VA and I mounted my plate to the front air dam and removed the grill on my Z28.

I haven't had a front plate on my car for about a year with no problems. ON my way to work a few weeks ago a trooper must have been doing 85 mph up the left lane, passes me, hits the brakes and hearly slides off the road to get behind me so he could turn on the lights. Pulls me over, chews me out for no front plate and then tells me, "mind rolling up your windows, most people with cars like these have tinted windows, and its a bit chilly to be driving with your windows down." So yea I roll uped the window, and what ya know, some jerky put tint on them Anyhow, 100 bucks later in tickets, I got a front plate on my car, but I left the tint. Damn the man, save the empire.

I haven't had a problem with the plate on my car yet... knock on wood. It's actually easier to see if you aren't right up next to the car, and if you are sitting down lower like you were in another car. You can see it, it's just not easy to read way down there.

I'm suprised you're getting away with that in Northern Virginia. I'm in Fairfax County and I don't think they would let me slide with a plate mounted like that. And at 75 bucks a wack, I don't think I want to risk it.

LS1 Sounds, Did you change your name?

My solution: (smaller plate, custom bracket and frame)

Smaller plate? How'd you work that out? That isn't something official is it? It doesn't really matter for me with the trans am anyway cause it still has to go in that recessed area no matter what. I got the clear front plate though and it looks alright i suppose.

At $75 each, if I start getting tickets I'll definitely mount the plate elsewhere! I plan on getting my windows tinted a little bit darker than the legal limit too, I'm really pushing my luck.

Yep, I changed my name on this board and have tried to change it on most of the others. I either go by LS1 Sounds, Chili Pepper, Chad, or Chad_75. hehehe. I really only frequent this board and the EFA board any more though...

I'm curious about the smaller plate too? I'm guessing that it's not legal to modify the existing plate. I've heard of people failing inspections before just because they tilted the two stickers on the plate to make them look different. VA has some wacky laws.

I doubt that it is legal to modify the plate but there is a lot of 'border' area on the outside of the plate. On some frames the edge is so heavy (wide) that it obscures as much as a 1/2 inch or more of the edge reducing the visible area to about what I have on mine. I simply trimmed back as much white space as I could and then built a custom frame to fit. It's not great but I think its better than running the 'giant' plate in the middle of the grill.

I need to upload my exhaust sound. I'll bet you don't have enough Magnaflow sounds do you? Mine might be a little different though.
