Default Original CETA bumper?

So I understand true CETAs are not painted but instead show the raw plastic which is black. Does anybody know if all Trans Am bumpers black? Basically if I was going to go a different route than plastidip then I'd rather strip off the paint to let the black show through than have it painted. Anybody tried this?

Highly doubt that if you tried to strip the paint you'd actually be able to get all of the factory paint off and actually keep the plastic looking good in the process.. Sounds like a waste of time that won't work out nearly the way you expect it to.

Also, it'll be essentially impossible to ONLY strip the paint in that section without harming the paint on the rest of the bumper. No way you'll get a clean line

You realize plastidip isn't the only option? You can actually use real paint, which most do.. at least up until the past couple years now that people seem to use plastidip for any and everything.. Go for a satin finish and it'll look similar to the original CETA cars.

Well of course paint is clearly the option everyone goes with but it's not true CETA. Stripping paint of a plastic bumper may not be that easy. Simply asking if anybody has attempted it.

Stripping the paint won't make it true CETA either...

The plastic underneath is going to look horrible with the paint stripped off. Just paint it

Just paint it satin black and be done with it. That's what Brutal_Boba_Fett and I did on his silver 02 WS6:

^^^ this, I feel like striping the paint is going to leave imperfections on the plastic beneath and just look pretty bad. Just curious as why you want to imitate it. If its currently not like that then you can't really claim it to be original, I would just paint it something you know youll be happy with instead of trying to experiment with harsh chemicals near good paint.

I did the whole berger panel before on my old Camaro and while it looked great in pictures... it was never perfect. Seemed like I could never prep the panel good enough to prevent paint flake in the lettering. Figured this time around instead of paint... I planned on either plastidip or satin rattle can... I would try to mimic the real thing. Raw plastic would never chip and I wouldn't have to worry about over spray.

I would just mask and rattle can it satin. Theres no guarantee the plastic beneath the paint is going to be one shade of black. I had to have the bumper on my old v6 camaro repainted and I stripped the paint myself but the plastic wasnt exactly black throughout. There was some areas that were a little grayish-black and overall it was spotty. Im not sure if Im explaining it right or not but I figure the CETA may be the same way.

Take the bumper off and have a body shop do it.

Or you could buy a new bumper that is unpainted, and paint only the section body color, leave the CETA section unpainted.

Ya aint gonna be able to strip that paint and have it look nice Broseph. +1 on the body shop. Zero need to take the bumper off. They can paint it on the car no problem. It's a pretty cake job.
