M16 x 1.5 is the thread size I believe. The things you mentioned are all that you should need.

You can also shorten the shaft while you're at it, I think I did 3/4". I've been meaning to dig up my old pics to post them up. I'll see if I can find them.

I have one with a Hurst T-handle on it. I don't have any pics handy, but I'll try and get a couple for you tomorrow. The shifter boot from an early 2000s Impala fits nicely. I think I pulled mine out of an '03.

^that. So if you're on any website that had a section with ***** specifically made for these cars they will work (ws6store, afterthoughtsauto, hawksthirdgenparts.com etc). You can also search in eBay with the thread size posted above to look for any other ones that may not be specific to these cars. I went with a shift ball from hawks third gen. Black with a good firebird on top.

Mine is from a '00-'05 Impala. I believe Grand Ams of the same generation are the same.

You will have to do some modifying to the underside of the console if you plan on adding the boot. Like removing some of the slide plates, etc.
Grand Prix, Grand Am, & many others will work, but you may have some trial & error during the fit.
I used a Grand Prix boot, & a Grand Prix **** that was recovered in leather, & the now button is now my line-lock.
(The flash from the camera really makes the center console colors look odd, ...)

I had to remove the sliding plates, shove the boot up in there, and then reinstall the sliding bit; basically sandwiching the metal ring around the boot between the console the sliding thing. It's important that you keep the sliding louver things in there as they are what makes the gear indicator work.

Here is how I installed my shift boot:
http://www.fadingarrow.com/ShiftBoot.htm
Its a universal leather shift boot.

I have a Trailblazer SS (TBSS) Shift **** on there now, with the same boot.

I don't have a pic of it installed, but here is babbage1109's car:

Redline Goods (a sponsor) also sells custom boots:
(I think babbage1109 - pic above - got his boot and center console cover from Redline Goods.)
