custom hood project im molding a hood scoop onto my stock z28 hood. i started off with a bad warped aftermarket hood off a 96 ss some guy gave me in a trade. my stock z28 hood was already dented from where a tree limb fell on me going down the road awhile back. oem ss hoods are getting hard to find around here and everybody wants 100000 dollars for one, my other option is to buy an aftermarket that probably wont line up anyway. i had nothing to lose so i gave it a shot.
started off i cut the scoop out of the ss hood
then a test fit. it didnt fit the curve of the hood exactly so i cut some reliefs in it to bend it a little
i cut a whole for air flow to make it functional. then i fastened it down with countersink metal screws. when i cut the scoop out i left about 1.5 inches of the flat part to give me a wide flange for adhesive.
a veteran hot rodder told me to use marine epoxy as adhesive. the reason why is marine epoxy is designed to flex with hull movements. if done right it wont crack. i glued it down, fastened with screws. next i sanded and applied some evercoat body filler around the seam. theres still a lot of sanding to do...and i got some pinholes in my body filler but i think its fixable with sanding and priming. so far its looking good.
still some work to be done but its getting there.
