Default Question for HID gurus about brightness

Ok I just finished putting projectors in my 02 camaro.
Everything went smooth but I'm not happy with light output.
It's slightly better than stock and blue (whoopie!).

Projectors and all accessories are from the retrofit source.
The hid kit is xentec from eBay and bulb rating is 6000k.

I want that bright crisp light output like a Cadillac, my question is can I get away with buying just good quality bulbs or do I have to get full hid kit from retrofit source?

I feel the hid kit is weak link here because headlight lenses are clean.

The 6000k bulbs usually have less lumen output than the lower temperature bulbs. See if you can find a 5000k or 4300k temperature bulb replacement. The retro fit source is a good place to start looking.

I had the Ebay Xentec HIDs for awhile. The light output is crap.

Not sure if it is mainly the bulb or the ballast or a combination of both, but they suck. I bought a set of 35w HIDs from the retrofitsource and the difference is literally night and day.

I used the Morimoto Elite H1 system (5000K, I think) since I also did the Morimoto projector retrofit and Whistler mod at the same time. This combo has pretty incredible light output and really nice quality components.

if you want good light output you have to pay for it, you don't want anything higher then 5000k, factory cars use 4300k and above all else you NEED a GOOD ballast to properly drive them, and those cheap hid kits just suck, this is where you really do get what you pay for.

You will see the improvement just by swapping to the Morimoto 3five ballasts, but for max lumens (light output) you need to be closer to the 3000k to 4300k temperature range, as you go higher the lumens get lower.

Xentec HIDs are crap. Get good ones and you'll be much happier.

There's a reason they are only 30 bucks.

I'm just going to echo what others have said. For one, for my personal stuff I will never go over 5000. I for the life of me cannot grasp the blue thing, at 6000-12000 kelvin light output fall off alot. The pure crisp white light the OEM's use is 4300K. With cheap hid kits unfortunately you get exactly what you pay for.

I personally would ditch all the components of your hid kit and upgrade your already good projectors with hid components from the retrofit source. I think youll be amazed at the difference.

Little late to the party but good info here. Def ditch the cheap HID kit and go with a good set of ballasts and lamps. 5000k is the most popular lamp temp we sell which provides a good balance of light output versus appealing light color. As you likely know, we supply our kits with Morimoto components.
