Default 6LE Clear Honeycombs

What happened to the thread about these taillights? Also they are not listed on his site anymore? Did he give up on them altogether. Have not been in this section in a while but remember it being a hot subject for a while, but the thread seemed to have disappeared.

I've got a cluster **** of a story with them being an early backer, but basically the end product turned out to be a low quality product with lots of defects, and maybe that's why they took them out all together.

it seams like the honeycomb part was the cluster **** from what I remember of the thread, if they only sold them as clear "blanks" then people used those to create custom designs it would have worked better, there was just to much curve in to many directions to properly recreate the honeycomb on a flat sheet of vinyl that then had to be stretched to fit.

I was part of said thread too. The honeycombs were very crooked and the thread vanished.

If you're looking for frosted tail lights... You could be super awesome and do frosted grids like yours truly

Are the tail lights from 93-02 all interchangeable? For example, can you put those grid tail lights on a car with honeycombs?

Thread was a cluster f@ck so we took it down. They're not dead, just still f@cking problematic.

Crooked part is fixed. Just still trying to find the best way to lay the vinyl so it doesn't bubble over time.

Good news! Do you have any images of the straight honeycombs? How fast did it bubble after applying the vinyl? I am excited for the finished product.

^^I can get some pics when we get back from AZ. Basically thought we had it ALL solved. Mailed out some of our lenses only while we were getting ready to do some of our installed housings. By the time they got to where they were going the bubbled.

The ones we still had sitting here did NOT. Driving us nuts. They were from the same batch so now we can't figure out if it is a fluke or some environment during shipping

Default lenses

6LE,
So if I wanted just clear lenses only would you sell them? I have some ideas I'd like to try. Also if I bought just the lenses and later down the road wanted to go with the honeycomb vinyl would you sell just that as well?

Good to know. I want these bad. I'm just waiting until the problems are resolved. It would be nice if the original tooling was somewhere and someone could make clear/frosted versions of them using the old tooling. Anybody got any sources that could lead us to the company that GM sub'd to make the originals?

Restoration companies do this all the time. YearOne, OER, and many other companies have made a mint by doing this.

This idea could possibly work for other areas that 4th gen owners are having problems with that are discontinued such as dash pads, and other interior parts.

Yeah I had that issue too, but the grids have grown on me. I actually like the look now.

Now I just have to decide if I want to run black covers, or find some grids and frost them out.

I used to want honeycombs, but after looking at my grids over and over and seeing the ability to frost... I went with grids

My biggest complaint with the grids is just that - they're grids. They will delaminate. I'm not going to spend a decent amount of money/time on stock looking tail lights that will delaminate.

if its being shipped via airplane in an unpressurized cabin, it could be existing bubbles that are not visible expanding as they gain altitude?

that said if the price were right i wouldnt mind having some clear blanks to play around with

If you're concerned about delamination, you can fix them before having them frosted .

Ive had 3 cars with grids and haven't seen delamination yet on my own cars.
