Default Static....

I know this is a stupid question, but bare with me please. I have a black 98 SS.Having the plastic parts,fenders,doors..ect. makes it very hard to keep clean.I can glaze it and run two miles to store and its already dusty. Does anybody have a trick to keep the static down?

Thanks a lot everyone

Once you wash/wax the car and drive off, dust is already collecting on it since it is in the air.

Some cars that have not been taken care of properly (washing, clay, polishing, wax, etc) tend to have a more porous clear coat and hold more dirt/dust

Plus you have a black car which no matter what will show dust within no time

Yeah black cars are tough to keep clean. But when im wiping off glaze I can feel the hair on my arms reacting. Feels like when you rub a balloon on your head and the hair raises. Ive just never noticed that on any steel car. Isnt the doors, fenders some kind of plastic polymer? And the car is never dirty.

Thanks guys for any answers

A running engine with an alternator/ generator makes a car more prone to attract dust particles, just a theory.

I have a plastic Camaro as well, overall it doesn't attract any more or less dust than my all-metal '71 Nova. My cars are always prepped and ready for show duty so I'm quite observant about things like dust. All of the 4th gens seem to collect a great deal of dust on the rear bumper very quickly, guess it has to do with how air passes over the car. Nowhere else on the car gets that much motion-related dust in such a hurry. My '71 has a similar issue on the rear bumper, but that one is chromed steel.

buy a good detail spray, and some quality microfiber towels. Make a habit of wiping the car often to avoid letting dust accumulate.

I hate having to spend hours washing my car only to have it dusty the next morning. Its a full time job keeping a black car clean lol

Call me paranoid but this sounds like a recipe for lots of swirl marks.

yes it is. Unfortunately anything you run over your cars paint eventually helps create swirl marks. However, using a quality microfiber towel, will reduce the amount of swirls. As i said, its a full time job keeping a black car clean

I personally use adamspolishes detail spray. It contains a little bit of wax in it, and after using it for a while, it makes the car stand out. I also buy my microfibers from the rag company. Once you try them, you wont want to go back to using cheap towels.

Exactly, I never touch my car after I wash and wax it until it's getting washed again..

The only time I use quick detailer is if I see a bird dropping on it and I will clean that up with QD and a microfiber towel ASAP

I haven't washed my '98 since April of 2005, that was also the last time I did an extensive paint correction. I've used quick detailer exclusively to clean the car since that time, meaning after every drive/weekend of car show events and/or annual/semi-annual complete clean-ups. I don't believe in regularly washing a car that never sees weather nor gets dirty beyond very light dust; this is a product of my experience with older, metal cars that are quite prone to allowing water to reach places that it shouldn't, thus leading to rust. If the car was stored outside or driven in rain, the story would be different as the amount of dirt and contaminants would then justify a washing.

Yes, it has picked up some very minor swirling since then, not noticeable to the untrained eye in normal lighting, but so would any car that's been driven and cleaned, washing or otherwise, over a 10 year period.

My Viper blue car is the same way. It's been washed once since it's been painted in 2010. I did a full 3 stage detail and topped it with 2 layers of CQuartz and Reload sealant. I wipe my car down with Last Touch detail spray and a quality microfiber towel after every drive. It stays under a clean car cover when I'm not driving it. I have very very slight micro marring, but to an untrained eye my paint looks absolutely flawless.

Try using this stuff for anti-static detail spray...

Isn't there a QD product (forgot the manufacturer, maybe Poorboys??) out there which is supposedly an anti-static agent as well?

I thought I once heard this on the AutoGeek site/forums a while back.

Default Black camaro

I put three really good coats of colinite wax. Then when it gets dusty I use Carbrite crystal-shine. Super easy on and off.. Whole car in 20 minutes. Love my black car. People give me **** for not driving in rain. When your disabled, car cleaning loses some of its fun.

Thanks
Love the site

^^^I use Collinite 845 (ONE coat) after EVERY wash on a black car.

The general public (NOT the 'white glove' detailing afficionados on here and Auto Geek, etc.) never fails to give me props for how the car looks, especially when I tell them the age, mileage, and that it is daily driven EVERY day, in ALL weather, and has NEVER been in a garage during it's 16 year life.

You should not need to wax that often as 845 is very durable. You may want to consider a spray wax instead. Too much wax can sometimes mute the look.
