5th or 6th Gen console in 4th gen?

5th or 6th Gen console in 4th gen? Has anyone thought of, or done, a console swap from a 5th or 6th gen into the older cars? I think they wouldn't look too bad personally, and would replace the broken and almost useless consoles in the 4th gens.
Without buying one and testing it out its hard to say about fitment, but I think they would line up fairly decent. Thoughts?

I picked one up at the junk yard a couple weeks ago to try in my 99 z28. If it fits ok I want to see if I could get the gages to fit and work too. I'll get some pictures when I get around to trying.
Please keep us updated! I'd love to see how this works out, I've had similar thoughts about this kind of swap for awhile now myself!

Let us know how it fits. As far as the gauges go, they might be CANBUS and not work like regular gauges. I personally dont think the gauges will fit well in the 4th gen.... looks like it will be too wide and look off, but try and see

That's it. Just recently saw someone on another forum put one in his early 2nd gen and it fit well and looked right at home with the factory dash, so I'll probably go that route.

I guess I could understand the stock console being broken if someone was hard on it (though none of mine have ever broken), but I don't really see how it's "almost useless". If it's a matter of styling preference then that's obviously purely subjective, but what makes the 5th gen console so much more useful/functional?

72 Camaro 5th gen interior Just adding my $.02 since the thread is active again. I put a 5th gen console and 2013 zl1 seats in my ‘72. They fit very nicely and look great. I can supply pictures if anyone is interested.
That is awesome, please post pics @JustAnotherCamaro , what functions were retained or lost with the retro-fit of newer console into older chassis?
