What did you modify? Putting a 9012 in place of a 9006 or a 9011 in place of a 9005 only takes minor trimming of a tab on the bulb and on some cars it just fits directly no modification (they plug right in on my mother's 2015 Honda CR-V without any modification).

true.....the plastic tab on the bulb requires trimming just so that it can fit in the housing....but as the 9011/12 are angled in the rear .....the headlight buckets need to be trimmed.....the middle headlight housing ( the one with the crank arm attached ) needs clearancing also

the clearancing as you can see goes all the way thru the assembly.....the low beam electrical connector as it sits on the bulb needs additional clearancing....you can clearance the rear headlight bracket or clearance the connector....guess which i did
this was all part of a headlight assembly rebuild and mod for the 9011/12 bulbs....it was not very easy...the rebuild was....very ....VERY time consuming.....parts hard to find....lots of rust to deal with and missing parts.....if anybody needs to know how to do it .....i am the expert now

Most 9005/9006 bulbs are right-angle (although there is a straight version too - I think its the "XS" version).
You are the first to post pics of what needed to be modified for right angle bulbs. Thanks for the pics. Can the bulb be twisted out of of the housings with the housing is still mounted or do you have to remove the housing to remove the bulb?
I have projectors so showing what I trimmed on my buckets wouldn't help here (my rear aluminum frame/buckets are trimmed even more and I'm not using the steel "front" buckets anymore).

to change out bulbs you would need to remove the whole headlight....no wiggle room back there
being first.....its what i do best![Nod](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_nod.gif)
now if just one person shows interest.....i will do a rebuild thread.....it really is a PITA to do it ....but where else ya gunna find all those parts GM does not sell ?

Has anyone tried this kit? https://www.hawksmotorsports.com/hid...ns-am-98-2002/
Just wondering if it's set up for proper aiming/reflection or if it would be one of those "all over" beams.

If you don't want to buy from Blackbird or he isn't replying, you can buy the projectors (Hella 60mm) on Amazon and the brackets to mount them on ebay..
Otherwise, the LMC housings appear to be the best output available for stock-like appearance. However, they are not intended for HID. They are Halogen Reflector Housings.
Technically the Hella 60mm projectors are Halogen as well, but they have shown to perform acceptably with HID.
Here is one such listing for the brackets on ebay:

Here is the Hella 60mm low beam on Amazon:

Here is the Hella 60mm high beam on Amazon:

If you dont like Amazon, you can find the projectors on ebay and RallyLights (Susquehanna Motorsports).
If you look in the Lighting FAQ, you can see what others have done in the past.

I also just found these on The Retrofit Source which look interesting:
https://www.theretrofitsource.com/un...headlight.html
They are relatively cheap at $120/pair (without HID bulbs or ballasts).

I asked TRS for more info on them. They don't have output pics yet and they don't know what projector is in there (someone else makes these for them), but they did tell me the dimensions:
Length: 5.5"
Height: 3.5"
Depth: 5.5"
Might be able to make them fit.

Thanks for the advice.
Either option doesn't look too bad. Relatively inexpensive for either if I start with just low beams (120 for the housing/projectors or 150 for the brackets and Hellas, plus another 120 for morimoto d2s 2stroke 2.0 LED bulbs).
I wonder if anyone has tried these: https://www.theretrofitsource.com/jw-speaker-8800.html
Also, what does everyone do for the wiring? Is there a pigtail available or does everyone chop off the factory connector? I like to avoid doing that if I can.

I wouldn't put LED into a HID projector, that would be a downgrade (I'm referring to the D2S 2Stroke vs D2S HID).
As for wiring, I have a relay harness that I made.

The 2.0 is an upgrade over the 1.0, but is still has lower lumen output than HID and doesn't use the housing the same way so putting HID in a HID Projector is better than putting LED into a HID Projector.
In some scenarios, LED may be an upgrade for a Halogen Housing, but not an HID Housing.

I don't have a thread showing exactly how I made it but there are more info and pics here:
