I used Westley’s Bleche-White, Dawn, scrub brush, and a green kitchen scotch brite pad.

Next time spray Easy-off Oven Cleaner on it, wait 10 minute than wipe off (years of crap removed instantly). Soap them up and lightly buff the inner with .000 steel wool, followed by 2 coats of DIY ceramic coating or a permanent wax. I do mine every 6 months. on all the cars for 14 years

Apparently oven cleaner is corrosive to aluminum. I would use something less harsh. I was considering this option with my wheels but will have to use other methods. Not sure about the effects with other alloys.

Oven cleaner dissolves aluminum, and should not be used on aluminum except in very special cases. You may be asking how you can restore the damage that has been done. If you can't reach the area to do mechanical polishing on it, you probably can't fix the etched surface.

Can EASY-OFF® Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner be used on any aluminum? We do not recommend using this product on aluminum, as it may pit and discolor it. However, it does not penetrate into the metal or remain on the surface after the recommended rinsing instructions have been followed.

Been using it for over 15 years. never (EVER) had a issue. I also use it cleaning aluminum walls in elevator, buff to a mirror shine. I used it on yellow headlights, and watched the crap foam out the lens, then wiped it clean without any damage.

I just stick with Westleys Bleche White and Dawn dishwashing soap.
