Default Rubber and weatherstripping maintenance

Hey guys, hope you’re doing well.

can someone please recommend the best products to do some maintenance on the rubber and weatherstripping of our cars? Mine is a 2002 WS6, and I’d like to take good care of the rubber and weatherstripping before the summer heat damages them and make them dry, I live overseas in UAE, and you wouldn’t believe the summers we have here.

I already have a very small leak from the driver’s side B pillar, but that’s to be expected with a 21 year old car. We’re talking about 2 drops on the rear driver side seat, floors and headliner are dry. please see the below current pics.

much appreciated guys. Thank you

Dielectric grease helps keep the seals in good shape. The Super Lube version can be found at Harbor Freight. Just rub it in with a paper towel or rag.

thanks for the fast reply 👍 how would you apply it?
do I just massage it on to the rubber and weatherstripping parts and let it dry? How often ?

303 Aerospace Protectant.

That is all I have used on my rubber/plastic/vinyl trim and components (interior and exterior) for 20-25 years now. All weather strips on my '98 are still perfect and supple as new. For an indoor car, just one application per year is usually enough. For outdoor/daily driver, 2-3 times per year is probably a better program.

Depending on the surface, I apply it either with a soft cloth or a foam applicator (in either case, I spray the product onto the applicator and then apply it to the surface). Buff dry with a separate clean cloth. If over-application (meaning streaking once dry) occurs, you can simply wipe it with water to even the finish.

Once dry, it's a non-greasy finish with a low gloss luster.

The best stuff you can use is the Honda Shin Etsu grease. I use a rubber glove and massage it into all the rubber seals. Over in the states it’s less than $20 for a tube and it will last you for a long time.

much appreciated 👍 thank you for recommending this.

based on what I’ve read and seeing a lot of threads, this is what guys have been recommending in no particular order:

303 Aerospace protectant
Mothers VLR
Dielectric grease

Shin-Etsu silicone grease from Honda
(part number : 08798-9013)

Hey guys, hope you’re all doing well.

I received the shin-Etsu silicone grease, and I was just wondering what’s the best way to apply it on and how often do I need to apply it ?

thank you

No clue on the Honda stuff, I've never touched it. But I did post some application instructions above for the 303 if you ever decide to use that one.

Looks like a fun time. I had heard of 303 but not shin-Etsu. I will have to give it a try.

I use a rubber glove and put a little on my fingers and just rub it into all of the rubber. I do it every couple of months, probably a little less frequently now that I park in my garage.

Another option is 3m silicon paste. We used to use this at the dealership. The can has a brush in it that you can use to apply. Then use a nitrile glove to rub it in. After letting it sit for a while come back with a paper towel or rag and wipe off the excess. Wet silicon sprays work as well, but tend to make more mess so I advise against those.
