Default Ram Air

Anyone know the advantages and disadvantages between the LT1 and LS1 Ram Air airbox configurations? Why did GM change from an open filter on top style to the slit in front style? I like the looks of the LT1 style but have an LS1; anyone ever try to make the factory LT1 Ram Air setup work on an LS1. I know Suncoast's Ram Air setup uses the LT1 style but I want to use the factory piece. Any ideas/recommendations?[FONT=Tahoma]

I'm curious about this too, it seems like it should be able to be done.

I've got this setup. I ported the holes on my SS hood to allow more fresh air to get sucked in. I know this doesn't provide a Ram Air effect but judging by all the dirt on my filter, I'm sure it's doing something.

I would think the LT1 system works better though, seeing as how it seals better and all. That FIPK setup is nice, but surely doesn't allow the same kind of airflow as the sealed version.

TAdriven98, Please post pix. What's the setup? Is it factory airbox with just an open lid or did you use aftermarket lid? Please advise.

Yes, that is the kind I am talking about; how much work is involved with making the connection? Is that airbox from an LT1 or aftermarket? I'd like to use the factory lid that says PONTIAC and RAM AIR.

Would that airbox fit under a stock hood? I need to do the upgrade in two stages and would like to do the RAM AIR box first.

I had the Suncoast Air Intake on my 2000 SS. Fit under the hood just fine. Made a custom gasket to the hood to seal the air slit of the SS hood to it. Worked fine, got al lot os reaction too. I got rid of it since it was not the most "attractive" setup. The SLP version is nicer . . .

There might be pics in one of my albums.

It looks like that LT1 airbox is the exact same thing I have just without the top piece. I actually dont know where my airbox was made because I got it when i bought the hood and that was from one of my friends.

I have the part number CD and all the LT1 components have different part numbers from the LS1 setup; that doesn't mean that they won't work together, just means there was enough of a difference to warrant a different part number. I may have to get my hands on an air lid and see if I can make it work... I'll post pics and info as soon as I know...Any other info would be greatly appreciated....
