Cobra shift knob questions Answered...

Cobra shift **** questions Answered... I have been getting a lot of pm's on this mod and I wanted to clear a few things up.
This seems to be the general consesus of the questions "Will the shift **** fit our handles?"
The answer is no. The mustang handle threads are much smaller / skinnier than our shift handles.
Now you have two options to get the cobra shift **** to fit.
Option 1 : simply re-thread whichever handle you have, stock, pro 5.0, ripper, lou short stick, whatever, to except the smaller threads of the cobra shift ****. Or you can re-thread the cobra **** to accept the larger f-body threads, its up to you.
Option 2 : the option that I went with, is a little more complicated. First you need to own (or purchase) a Pro 5.0 shifter. Now all you need to do is find a mustang shift handle for the pro 5.0. Just the handle not the entire shifter, which looks just like this :
I found mine on ebay. All it is is the shift handle for the Pro 5.0 for the mustang. It bolts directly up to the Pro 5.0 wether it be for the Camaro/firebird or the mustang. Then just screw on the cobra shift **** since you now have a mustang handle that will of course accept the mustang thread size.
DO NOT GET THESE HANDLES, they will hit the bottom of the console when going into any of the bottom gears, i.e. 2,4,6

my guess would be a tap and die kit with the right die for the threads
you could always just drill and tap the **** for your bigger handle.

You need a drill and a tap. Just drill the hole in the **** out to the required size, and thread a tap into it. Total time ~10 minutes.

Alot of metric threads have a sae counterpart that is nearly identical, and will work just find. Especially if you are threading into plastic, it wont bind it will thread like butter.

I was hesitant about buying the 5/8 because I wasn't 100% sure if it would fit. I just decided to order a 29 dollar Pro 5.0 stick yesterday, I figure I would have spent close to that buying a tap and die set anyway.

Just messing with you. I thought about doing it that way. But re-tapping the **** allows you to put the old **** back on, or any other **** made for our shifters.
