Microfiber is all I use now. It's the only way I can keep light swirls and spiderwebbing off the car.
Here's a good website to buy them from. http://properautocare.com/ .

I mainly use microfibers. I get the majority of mine from www.pakshak.com
The ones from the parts store don't get used on my paint.

I like the Green "viper cloths" the best. They seem to be the best all around use towels. Also the blue drying towels work great for drying and I use a MF mitt to wash the car too. I've tried the flat white MF towels (have a tight weave) but if your using them with a quick detailer or a removing polish they leave residue behind. I also have acouple of the rougher blue towels to remove bugs. They have alot of bite to them but don't scratch the car.
I think I invested $2-300 in towels, pads and applicators but it was well worth the money. If you wash your car more than once a week you really need 2 sets of mits and and drying towels. I find that if they aren't sent through the washing machine between uses they will spider web the clear coat even if you try to rise any junk out of them.

Waffle Weaves for drying - Ultras for polish and wax removal - Ultra Fine and Ultra Plush for quick detailing.
If I were buying, I would get 2-3 waffle weaves, 5+ Ultras, 2-4 Ultra Fines and Ultra Plushes.

You can use Tide, but I use a microfiber specific product. Pak Shak has one.
Caring for Mitts and Towels
- Wash on the Warm/Cold setting
- Use Liquid Detergent or MF specific detergent only w/ no bleach and NO fabric softener
- Add White Vinegar to the rinse cycle for added softness and soil release
- Rinse twice
- Dry towels on low heat w/ no fabric sheets
