I think that place is expensive too. When I got my carbon fiber I paid around 30-35 a yard

Thats a pretty good place. While there are cheaper places, this place can sell you everything you need so you'd only have to pay shipping once

ok, this have been a very informative post.. but i have a quick question. Is the resin application the same as fiberglass.. i suppose i get the clear resin and the suface wax? and then use that how instructed.. I know how to fiberglass, i just dont know if there's alot different trying to lay a "visual" resin thanks!!

It is a lot like fiberglass. Only thing is you gotta be careful not to mess up the weave of the carbon

Is it possible to do the cupholder in a TA console? That looks like the only really hard part on the console. Would you just have to lay the CF over it and then cut it out later? I don't see a clean way of doing it. I think the resin would run everywere.

You'd want to disasemble everything from the console (yes- including the cupholder) and do them all seperately. And yes- you'd lay the CF over the whole cup holder unit and cut out what you don't need after you're done resining it. It would not be too difficult- definately do-able...

OH! (Duh!) That I would do in 2 steps. First- I'd do the inside of the cupholder and put the first layer of resin on it. Then I'd cut everything that sticked out of the top flush with the surface. Then lay the CF over the whole piece and do the first layer of resin on it. Then cut out the hole. Then do the rest of the layers, etc. Or the other way (the easy way and cheaper) you could just do the whole thing ignoring the hole and cut it out when done and leave the cup holder not covered inside. Or another possability if you never plan to use it would be to lay some foam in there and mold it to the contour of the spot and overlay the whole thing so you never knew the cupholder was there in the first place. I did one for a guy locally that wanted to mount a gauge where the cupholder went and also wanted switches at the front where the stock lighter and cubby hole were, so heres what I did for him:

Notice where the cupholder was, it is flat now for a mounting surface for his gauge, and at the front, I followed the contour up on the sides so he could have a place to mount switches. And actually, I measured it, and there is enough space there to where he could have put two 2 1/16" gauges there in the front where he was going to put his switches. Just a thought- there are many possabilities out there. Be creative!!!

Definately use clear resin if you want to be able to see the weave of the CF. If you plan to paint it, you don't have to use clear. I think I used around 2 or so yards for the pieces in my Vette.
