Default Cleaned engine bay....finally!!

Well, I have to start by saying that I have been somewhat of an abusive father. I have owned the car for 6 years and only cleaned the engine bay twice.

Since being on this forum for the last couple of months and seeing the fabulous job that others have done with there engine, I could no longer stand it. And to be honest, I didn't think the engine would come clean after that many miles, the dirt, salt, and grime.

So since it was raining, I decided to work on the compartment for the day. I was rather astounded by the results. See the pics below for the before and after. And please all...don't beat me up to bad because of the before. After seeing how the engine looks now, I will never let it get in that condition again. Thanks to all who make their engines look good for the inspiration, and shaming me into finally doing something about it. Next is the wire mod to get rid of all those wires.

how did you decide to clean it-did you use the Sticky in here or you did it by hand?

Yeah, what was your method. Sadly, my engine bay looks like your first picture.

Well it was about time!

Nice job! Now let's keep it that way, or you'll be in trouble mister!

I work in Indy. What part of town are you on?

Yeah it does look a different car. I was ashmed of it after seeing others on here. the wife came home and we went to eat, I wouldn't even drive the car. We took here truck....lol.

To answer others, I looked around on here and did some of the same methods, but there was very little hand work involved. Really only some places around the block and some teh places around the wiring and the computer.

Look at the first post in this thread.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ing+engine+bay

I bought the Gunk Foamy Engine Brite and CD2 detailer. Awesom stuff!! I had two apply the Gunk engine cleaner twice today because of how bad I had let it get. Then once it dried, I just applied the engine detailer according to the directions on the can. I don't have to try and sell the stuff, I think the pictures speak for themselves.

I will never let the engine get that bad again. And I am sure it will be even easier to clean the next time.

How long did that take you? Good job. I always hated cleaning the engine.

I've never had a car nice enough to bother but I plan to keep my LS1 engine bay mint. You can really just spray the whole thing down with Gunk Engine Brite and hose it down? As much as I want to keep it nice, something about that just doesn't sit right with me. You don't end up with water in places it shouldn't be, or rust in all the little nooks and crannies that you can't hand dry like you can nice open body panels?

I sure made sure that I covered up the Computer and the wiring from the computer, since I have not done the engine mod. Sprayed the cleaner on everything, let it sit for 5 minutes or so, and then hosed it off. I just did not use high pressure. I had adjustable **** on the hose and just had a low pressure stream. Then started the car and took it for a spin, left the engine running for about 15 minutes to dry. Then finished off drying by hand.

I had to do the process twice since it was in bad shape. Took about 4 hours total.
