Default LEDs drain battery?

I was planning on putting in some LEDs in my clear corners, but someone just told me that they will drain the battery. Has anyone heard of this as a problem with LEDs?

Thanks...

This is true.. very unfortunate but true.

LED's (while on) will draw power from your battery. On the bright side they only draw a FRACTION of what an incandescent bulb will draw...

Think of it this way. Your battery supplies power to super heat the filament in an incandescent bulb producing light (controlled short). LED's use the power from your battery to illuminated by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material. This is why they last so long. They are a solid state device.

LED's are better than regular bulbs.. they last longer and use much less power!!

Well, that's exactly why I bought them! I didn't think there would be any problems, but when I read this, DOH! Anyways, has anybody ran into charging/battery problems with them (think I will running four LED's)?

Sorry I was trying to be sarcastic...

Bottom Line.

-With LED's you free up power that incandescent lights will rob you of.
-LED's take less power to run there for more power for your battery
-LED's are FAR more reliable, and resistant to shock.

LED's are in EVERY way are far better then incandescent bulbs.. You are better for having them.

Yeah I was going to say I've been running about 10 LEDs inside my interior for like 6 months and not a single problem with my battery, and that's with 5 of the LEDs being on a dim state 24/7 even when the car is off (apparently if you put LEDs tapping from the power lines that go to the dome light, there's ALWAYS a little power going through that line..)

Can you use LED's to make headlights then? You would need to make a fixture with a mirror right ?

so which LEDs did you buy? when i got mine like a year ago, no right angle LEDs were available. i ended up getting something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

because they have LEDs on the sides too. they look fine at night but they're extremely hard to see during the day.

I don't see how LED's could drain a car battery unless your REALLY trying lol

the LEDS i ordered draw like 6 microamps....which, its .0000000006 amps, for you none engineering types

so, i wouldn't worry. if you don't forget to turn off your lights that often, you'll never have a problem with LEDs IMO

.000006 amps is 6uA. Thats nA.
The LEDs will give off less heat on top of the other benefits, so no melting the harness/housing.

those are the exact ones i got. not the brightest but i didn't want the OEM bulbs to warp the housing and cause leaking.

Figured they probably wouldn't be as bright, but not too worried about it. I'll take lower heat and extended life over brightness any day!

If I remeber correctly the Cadillac Sixteen actually had LED headlights. They used prizms to focus/aim the light. Eventually all bulbs in a car will be replaced with LEDs. You wont see LED headllights on the market for a while though.
