I dont know about anything earlier.
The Corvette had them in 1968.
T-Tops may have been around earlier, but I can't seem to find anything.
It was designed so long ago and is so common that I doubt anyone bothered to take the credit as being the first to design it.
My guess would be in the 50's or 60's by either an American, German, or Italian racing team.

Disk brakes were experitmented with in the 1890's and werent patented for cars until 1902 by Frederick William Lanchester (England).
