Default The art of cleaning the CME...

All,

There have various posts on keeping the CME tips clean. I have found the easiest solution....

A palm sander!!!! 60 grit paper and then a 100 grit....How did I not think of this sooner.

I was at my wits end trying to get the black off the tips, tried polish, SOS pads, you name it and I tried it. While sanding some drywall, it came to me... Sand the POS...

Now, you need to have a firm hand on the sander (dont want to hit the valance). However, the results were great and it took all of 45 seconds.

I will post some before and after when I get the digital camera back from the wife.

My next step might be to try and polish it.

Hit it with some 400 grit, then some Tripoli compound on a buffing wheel. Follow up with some good metal polish. This should make it easier to keep clean in the future too!

I use a dry sponge about every three days and works just fine. the dish sponges with a green scrubby end on one side and the yellow sponge on the other..

The more often you clean them, the easier they are to keep clean. I'm lucky thoughl...my car hardly deposits anything on my tips, and I don't have cats.

Takes me 1 minute to clean both tips. No joke. Use a cloth, wrag, or terry towel and Mequired Aluminum polish. It will take the black right off in seconds. Wipe it away and you are done.

Same here, only with Mother's Aluminum polish. Works great.

I'm going to have to carry the aluminum polish with me as my large cam and ORY are doing quite a number on my CME tips...
