Whats the procedure for wet sanding and clearing tail lights? What grit sandpaper and how many coats and such. Does it look nice compared to factory? Thanks fellas.

If I remember correctly I used 1200 grit to scuff up my taillights (with water)and then placed, I think, around 500 little hexagon stickers over the red parts and my dad sprayed my taillights with the car, then he applied around 6-7 coats of clear (but he likes to go heavy to give room to wet sand). I think they turned out pretty nice...

Send'em to me, ..., I'll wet-sand & polish them to look like new again! (For a small fee of course!)
No, seriously, I've done it many times. I've done many, many center sections over the last couple years also. Selling them on all the forums & eBay.
Wet-sand with 1200, then 2000 grit. Polish.
(I use a 1/4-sheet sander, & an old B&D orbital polisher with Zaino plastic polish to do the trick. Excellent results.)
Good Luck!
(Uh, I'd not recommend the clear-coat paint thing myself. But I guess that's because I've never tried & simply have better luck wet-sanding & polishing.)

I just sanded them smooth with 800 and shot clear on them. When I finish with my little "secret taillight experiment", I'll post pics. It's hard to explain but I think it will go well with my berger panel.

I got the 3M sandpaper, its called wet-something, but you have to add the water yourself. Its regular, dry paper at the store. Those grits are good, but they are more for the finishing coats.
