I thought you guys might like to see pictures of the installed VFN Sunoco
hood and thanks for all the nice compliments on the "Extreme Makeover" LOL
I'll make sure Dad get's online when he gets home from the Power Tour so
he can read them all.
I have to agree with the not usually being a fan of cowl hoods on the late
model cars as every other one out there is just so "SQUARE" they look really
bad on a car with such a flowing somewhat "melted" look of the '98-02
Camaro. This hood has that smooth flowing look that goes well with the
fenders that seem to "blend" into the rear view mirrors. Plus I like the overall
curve of the hood scoop from front to back as it tapers down near the
windshield where others just keep rising until they are way higher than the
back of the hood and have that chopped off look to them.
I also think that on a light colored Pewter car the hood looks better without
the rib running down the center of the hood as it keeps the "Smooth" look of
it. But I do like the rib on darker colored cars like the #6 Camaro pictured.
Funny how everything looks different painted a different color.
Dad origionally wanted to install a GM SS spoiler and SS hood like was used
on the origional prototype HOTROD Camaro. You may have seen pics of it in
a back issue of HOTROD when they did a story about building these cars.
But when I saw preview pics of the VFN hood and showed them to Dad his
mind was made up that this was the hood for him as he always loved the
look of the Sunoco car as do I. Plus everyone has as SS hood so he wanted
to be a little different that the rest.
The finish quality of the hood was top notch and the fitment was not a
problem like many aftermarket items out there. The Chevrolet dealership who
painted the parts commented on how impressed they were with the hood
quality and said painting/install was a breeze.
As far a changing the car goes Madice I know just what you
mean........................ and well he and I talked about it for a while and
figured that some people (not you) might criticize the decision and whine
abuot how the car is not origional anymore bla, bla, bla.
The conclusion from our conversation was that the car really has not been
modified as he is keeping the Z28 spoiler and HOTROD staff autographed
hood in the shipping cartons the new parts came in. Plus to change the
car back to stock would only take 4 bolts for the spoiler and 8-10 for the
hood then the car would look just like it did when delivered by Berger Chevy.
So overall no harm done to the car as far as the collectors would be
conscerned. Actually he is preserving the car by storing the stock hood and
preventing it from gettnig rock ships while driving it................ how does
that line of BS sound. LOL
Actually Dad has a complete Hotchkis suspension kit sitting in the garage
waiting for me to install when he gets home and yes he will be keeping all
the stock suspension parts for future restoration if anyone would ever want
to return it to stock down the road. Heck nobody in the last 2 years has
even mentioned the clear corners I installed for him that look so much better
than the amber ones that GM put on the car.
Again thanks for the compliments and if it were not for the members of this
site Dad's car and mine would be nothing like they are now.

The 17" Cragers on Dads car were part of the HotRod Magazine package (along with the 2 tone seats, hockey stick stripes, exhaust, suspension, etc.) that GMMG and Berger put together. So the car was delivered with those wheels.
The wife's 18" Cragers were purchased from a wheel shop in CA but they have not had them for sale in the last 3 yrs from what I have seen. You might give Matt Murphy a call at GMMG to see if he has a set he would part with.

I will order one of these hoods on the next group purchase. Tell me, did he install it for awhile so it could weather/cure a little? Or did he simply buy it,paint it,install it?
I want one!! SOON!!
