Default Valvecovers

What is the best way to color the valvecovers?? I have wanting to do this for a while but have no idea on where to start. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

The "best" way is to have them powdercoated, but you can paint them with high temp paint. I have been wanting to do mine too, or polish them. I'll probably try to do something with them this winter.

Good engine paint will last for a very long time. Get the best quality possible. You could always cover them up w/ some fuel rail covers, too.

i just did mine with some high temp paint. came out pretty good IMO. Could have been better tho. Its covered up from the coil packs so if you do make a small mistake then chances are it wont be too visible.

We have painted blocks, intakes, heads, valvecovers, and about anything else you can think of besides exhaust at work with regular base coat/ clear coat like what we use on cars and it holds up fine. Thats what i plan on using on my intake and valve covers

How do you prep them before you slap on the first coat?

some kind of degreasing stuff to start. Then just sand away til its nice and ready. Getting around everything can be a PITA i guess but i didnt see any reason to be perfect w/ every little corner and it still came out fine. Put a few coats of your color choice..then some clear and you're all set

painted valve covers sorry for the bad pics. just to give ya an idea on how it came out not spending too much time w/ prep work. the cleaning/degreasing part i was picky with but the sanding i just made sure most of it was done fairly well

just clean all the dirt and grease off of them and then WE usually sand them w/ 6-800 grit wet paper. just get them looking dull all over then go over them with a grey scotch brite and clean them again with wax and grease remover ( you can buy this at oreillys or autozone) and then spray whatever color basecoat you want and then clear them. throw them back on the next day just be careful because they may still fingerprint or scratch really easily. We painted a '55 chevy truck that we restored for a show truck and we had to paint the rear end, transmission, and motor all the same color and we had to go as far as color sanding and buffing some of the parts. Talk about a PITA! You wouldn't have to get this involved unless you just wanted to. If you paint them in your garage or wherever its not in a paint booth wet the floor down to keep some of the dirt out of the paint. PM me if you have anymore questions. Hell i'll do them for a small fee. Just PM me

Correct--I had initially looked at polishing my valve covers but went with these instead. Much easier to maintain a clean appearance.
