Default ? about waxing black

MY car was waxed 6 months ago but i have a question about the zaino products. Can i just use the Z2 and it will shine nice ? Or do i have to go through the whole list? Is it necessary to clay bar ?

That's sort of a loaded question in this forum, since most of us are obsessive about keeping our cars clean.

Given my experiences with Zaino (all positive), I would suggest claying. Zaino doesn't adhere well to other waxes, and a claybar session will remove any old wax you have. It really doesn't take that long, maybe a half hour for the whole car. Once it's clayed, wash and dry it, then check for scratches, scuffs, and swirl marks. Polish those out, then apply the Z2 with the curing additive. Zaino is a great sealant, but if you have scratches and swirls before you apply it, you will do nothing but seal those scratches and swirls in.

To summarize:
1) Wash/Dry
2) Clay
3) Wash/Dry (to remove clay residue)
4) Polish, if necessary (Zaino now offers an abrasive polish, though I have no personal experience with it yet)
5) Zaino (Z5 or Z2)

Remember, Zaino layers very well, and does even better if you use the Z6 spray between layers.

You can do multiple coats, but it is not necessary. I never use more than 3 coats.

Remember to prep the paint well. Deal with any swirls, scratches, etc. now.

Hey ZaneO. Couple questions. I ususally wash my car then dry it. Go with the clay bar, wash and dry again. Then I go with the Porter Cable and Menzerna Intensive Polish for the scratches and stuff. Then I go over with the Final Polish. Finally I go over it with the Zaino.

Am I missing a step or should I add a step??

Someone posted up their experiences with the new Zaino abrasive polish last week: https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearance-detailing/340385-new-zaino-swirl-remover.html

They did everything by hand and the results were really good. You can polish by hand, but you will get better results with a polisher.

NBM shows almost as much as black, so I feel your pain.

I'm not ZaneO, but I've used that exact process with great results. The only thing I have added is a glaze before the sealant (Menzerna Finishing Touch Glaze), but then I top off with Blackfire because Zaino just doesn't adhere to a glaze very well.

The problem Im having is that when I apply the Zaino as the final step, it looks streaky and off. I dont like the way it turns out and dont know why. Tried leaving it on longer and also tried wiping it right off. No luck.

hmmmm...well, there are a couple things you can try.

1) When you wipe off the excess polish, how are you doing it? I use a couple microfiber towels and an alcohol/water mix for the IP and straight filtered water for the FP2. I know Menzerna doen't have fillers, blah blah blah, but it has some oils in it that are broken down by the alcohol and it makes it easier to remove.

2) When you go to remove the Zaino, is it totally dry? The best way to check is to run your finger through a spot and see if it smears. If it smears, it's still wet.

3) Is it possible you're putting on too much Zaino? Each layer should be REALLY thin for best results. I've been a little overzealous with the amounts before and I usually end up with streaks/poor results when I do. Easiest way I've found to correct this is to go over the streaky spots with a buffer (not a polisher, a buffer).

i am the one who posted the results in the link above. doing it by hand isn't all that bad if you have a buddy to give you a hand with it. if you are going to do it by yourself, i would suggest using an orbital buffer of some sort. i personally don't have any expereince with them but i have seen many posts of peoples cars that have. they come out with absolutely amazing results with probably much less sweat involved. but you can get good results by hand if you take your time and aren't affraid of using a little elbow grease. but good luck with which ever method you choose, i'm sure that it will come out great!
