Default Problems with Pop-up headlights - screw them.

Sorry about the quality of the pic but the wife was out of town and had the camera. Had to use the phone.

I didn't feel like fooling with the headlights...pop up...pop down...grinding noise...yada yada yada. So I put two sets of fog lights in.

It wasn't too hard to fab up the brackets for the fog lights but to replace the turn signals I had to reuse the turn signal shell. Using a Dremel I was able to notch and clearance the shell to fit the new light. Then used some JB Weld to secure them together.

Thanks Tom for your assistance.

Cool concept, but I have a few questions... You dont use your headlights anymore? Are the fogs high enough to replace actual headlights? What if you need your brights?

The stock headlights projected further out but the light sucked. These are brighter and seem to be acceptable.

Honestly on a scale of 1-10 I would give the overall lighting a 6.5. If it doesn't work out I can always change the bulbs out on the turn signals and concentrate on the headlights.

What size fog lamps did you buy? Do the front DRL lights still blink when you turn on the blinker?

I have been thinking about doing this for quite some time now... this might be the motavation I needed.

Now realize that I do not say this with pride but I got the lights at PepBoys. I think they are the Blazertechs.

Yes, they still blink. They don't blink at the same cadence as before though, which is expected. Instead of having itty bitty bulbs in there they now have H3 55w bulbs. I guess I need another tougher relay (?) to slow the blink down. It isn't much faster but it is enough to make me want to change it.

Man, what's that white pile of crap in the driveway making your car look all nasty ?

Pewterpowre - Yeah, we've been having some issues with headlights since the gears are stripped around the whole gear.

Just so people know, that picture doesn't even begin to show how freaking bright they are, I thought I got a sunburn the first time he lit those things up. I think the issue with the overall lighting of the road is simply the aiming of the lights, since one was pointing up and the other down, and the other two somewhere in between. One other little snag is that the turn signal is a dual filament bulb and the new one is a single. Now during the day this is not an issue as the normal DRL operation during the day simply turns off the DRL for the turn signal. What becomes a bit of a problem is that during the night, the second filament is not utilized, so instead of keeping one filament lit and then flashing the other one like it does stock (-EDIT- asically just getting dimmer when it flashes), the new setup simply turns the light on and off - so in the car you see BRIGHT, dark, BRIGHT, dark, BRIGHT, etc. - not too big of an issue, but something to be aware of.

Hey Brian, let me know when you want to try that other flasher relay, I should be open this weekend. Maybe I can take a gander at that collector since we didn't get to it last week .

Tom

isn't that illegal to be using those as your headlights since they (the fogs) are not high enough?

Is it illegal? I have no idea but have been by several cops in the last week and they could have easily stopped me.

Squirrelmaster: Don't knock the truck (beast). Yes, I do need to align the lights and yes they are a little low but they get the job done. Where are we going to start for the relay? Who carries higher impedence relays?

As far as the collectors go I am going to hook up with Bro Coronado this week and we'll git 'er done or at least set up the welder correctly. I decided to redo them.

Gimme a call if you want to go.

Ok so here are some more pics as well as higher quality. Again, I would have rather bought PIAA but...$$$

Turn Signal Replacements

New Fogs

So far no one has flashed their brights at me and I have even been pulled over at night. No I didn't get a ticket. The POPO ran my plate and apprently someone else with my name has 7 warrants out for them. I simply showed my license along with my CHL license and I was on my merry way

that would be illegal in many states because of regulations requiring a minimum height on the level of the headlight...if the cop really wants to be a dick he can measure it and you get a hefty fine from it
