Default What can/can't be polished under the hood?

I just bought some polishing equipment. I plan to polish every single thing under the hood and my brake calipers etc. My question is, what's possible? Does anyone know if the coil brackets can be stripped or polished or are they mild steel? The power steering pump pulley won't stick to a magnet so I guess it can be done too. What's the water pump pulley made of? I know I can do the hood struts and fuel rails. How about the part of the steering shaft that comes through the firewall?

So far I've done the valve covers and maf ends inside and out. I'm doing the throttle body now. I plan to do the heads, front of the block you can see, the plate under the intake, timing cover... Any suggestions?

Has anyone here polished anything? 47 views and not a single response.

Does anyone care to guess? Can I do the coil brackets, waterpump pulley, or what else?

I really don't have much experience in the "bling" department, but I do know that companies sell the polished pulley, billet caps, and other polished items. Your best bet would be to try to get a hold of Steve1969LS1. He's got some background in bling! Maybe this can give you a few ideas...

That's great stuff!!! I can see there that I can do the waterpump pulley and the power steering pump pulley. The only thing not done in those photos that I plan of doing is the cylinder heads, block, valley cover, timing cover, and a few little tid bits.

So far over the weekend I've done the valve covers, maf ends, and tbody. Tonight I plan to start on the coil brackets. My goal is to have the most blinged out engine in Georgia.

Hey Zangel you have awsome car, and the engine compartment looks just as good. I was wondering is that a plate bolted onto the head that has a bow tie and stuff on it? If it is where did you get it. I am also in the process of trying to clean up my engine compartment.

My whole engine will look like it was dipped in chrome when I'm done. The only thing I won't do is the aluminum intake because of the heat soak. I will paint that gloss black with tons of clearcoat.

Oh yeah, Zangel that's one very nice ride! My inspiration came from Todd2001SS. He has the best bling I've seen in a long time.

If you're worried about heat soak from having a polished intake, you could always have the underside of it ceramic coated.

Do you have any experience with polishing metal?

Yeah, I'm a pro at the polishing gig. On my lunch break even though I'm wearing a suit and tie, I used paint stripper on a tiny part of the coil bracket, found steel instead of aluminum, but it's the kind that will polish. I hit it with the emory and it shined right up. When I sand them and do the whole bit the coil brackets will bling just like the valvecovers under 'em!

I think I'm getting addicted.

You can't polish the power steering pulley. It isn't even metal. It is some sort of plastic. Steve had his water pump pulley chromed along with the tensioner pulleys. You would also need to have the coil pack brackets chromed as well. Thing you can polish are:
Valve covers
TB
Maff ends
A/C compressor and parts
Power steering cooler
Water pump housing
Knock sensor cover
Front and rear plates
Heads
Oil pan
Alternator

I am sure there are more things. That is all I can think of for now.

I actually polished apart of the coil bracket a few hours ago. I saw a picture of a GMMG car that had his waterpump pulley polished not chromed. I can tell the difference. Thanks for the advice though.

Polish the coil brackets and they'll rust. Polish the waterpump pulley and it'll rust too. You can polish the pump but if you have a '00 or newer or you're stuck with a pressed pulley....'98-'99 are bolt on (see Steve's).

The only thing I won't do is the aluminum intake because of the heat soak
You already have an aluminum intake? Or you won't buy one because of the infamous 'heat soak' .

Just trying to help. Go ahead and polish the coil brackets and pulley. Don't come back on here crying when they start to rust.
