Default Question for painters about berger panel

Well, obviously I decided to do the Berger panel, but like a few others have done I'm going to fill in the Camaro (i figure if someone doesnt know its a camaro already, they dont need to). I'm planning on filling it in with a fiberglass filler instead of bondo for obvious reasons. I'm not the type of person that likes to do things half assed, so; 1) What fiberglass filler should I get and from where? and 2) Do I need to add any flex additive for extra support, or is that just on polyurethane type materials. And yes I will be primering it and doing a whole lot of sanding.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

His sig says export taillights. Those are far from being altezza's.

I know that Wal-mart, autozone, advanced auto, etc. carry a fiberglass repair kit as I'm sure Lowe's, home depot, etc. would. Also any boating supply store should have it. Hope this helps...

i just got it at the local car quest becuase they carry paint there also

my suggestion to you would be to get a second pannel that you can paint, so that if you want to sell the car or get tired of it you can put the orginal pannel back on there

thats what i did at least

I would be inclined to use a product called Dynalite Plastic filler. It's more flexible then Bondo could ever hope to be. After the initial fill and sanding use will most likely have pinholes so I would use a glazing putty in 2-3 steps gradually feathering out each layer until super smooth.

Your best bet is to get your fiberglass filler from an auto body supply store. I bought the short strand fiberglass filler and it comes with a tube of hardner. I think I paid about $14 tops. I filled in the rear CAMARO letters with the fiberglass filler, then smoothed over it with regular bondo type body filler. It took me a few days to get it as smooth as possible. (I wanted it damn near perfect)

I don't currently have any pics because the car is in the process of being repainted completely.

Hope this helps.

You can get it at Advance:

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...partnumber=272

I don't like it myself. The strands make it very difficult to finish but if you do it like ritchie recommends that will werk.

I use a commercial fiberglass filler made for building tables, benches etc. So its meant for the weather and abuse already, plus once this stuff gets hard it is stronger than the rear piece itself. It sands down even and smooth with the rest of the panel pretty easy too. You can't even tell there was letters there on everyone I have done.

I know I a few years late on this thread but I wanted to know what sandpaper to use. Different types for different stages of smoothing? What did you use to but the filler in with? A plastic putty knife? As you can tell I havent done this before. I will be buying a brand new panel for filling and painting. Thanks for the help in advance.
