New berger panel idea (no not just a diff color)
I was thinking about it... trying to think of a way to do the berger mod but be different. Then it came to me: smoked tail panel. People smoke lights, signals, etc, but is there any way to just smoke the rear panel (aka smoke paint)? I'm not even sure it's possible, but it would def be different. I think it would look much better than just a black panel in that it would kind of blend. Anyway, had to get the idea out before I forgot about it.

Usually when you "smoke" something you are doing it to a piece that is clear or translucent. The back panel is plastic so all you would be doing is painting it a dark gray or something.

the smoked idea however, wont work on the tail panel because you cant "smoke" something not translucent, like dopefedZ said. it'll look like overspray from black paint at best.
i know a couple people with their panel painted silver on nbm cars and that looks good too. it's all about individuality and what you like, dont listen to everyone else, then your car will look like everyone else's. unless that's what you want, try out new ideas and see how it comes out.

True, I didn't think about it having to be translucent. Dammit. Oh well, back to the drawing board.... unless one of the sponsors (or anyone) wants to make a clear tail panel

when i had my 3rd brake light smoked, the painter just added a touch of black to clear. i suppose you could sand the clear on the tail panel, and have it resprayed with tinted clear to give it a smoked effect.
but it would probably just look like a darker tone of the base color.

I agree with 99ssleeper it would be a different shade that the rest of the car. I think it would look like a body shop had messed up the paint color if you had this on your car. I am not for sure though so I would like to see it done.
