I have my lid painted and the clips suck. I just fastened them anyway. Paint has a perfect slit underneath the clips, but as long as you don't take your lid on and off a lot, it should be alright. Of course, I still don't like the little cuts though. I also ended up putting a little piece of felt in the top center to stop the hood from scuffing it. I heard that some people had that problem.

Yeah I painted my lid a few months ago and was eager to get it on the car before I made it out to the track that night. It is an slp and the hood is the stock WS6 and once I got everything together I decided to shut the hood without even checking the clearance. Havent heard any problems with this certain issue, but with fresh paint it would have been a good idea. Now my lid has a nice big smudge on the top of it from the hood rubbing

Look at it this way, the clips are going to go back in the cuts everytime you put the lid back on so they really shouldn't be seen too much.

Bryan is right, nobody has commented on the cuts. And you know how people will always try to find some sort of flaw. I pointed it out to somebody in the past and they said that they didn't even see it. They also didn't even see the piece of felt that I put on the top center. The painted lid sets off the engine bay and it'll help take attention away from some of the smaller details.

Ill tell you how NOT to paint your lid. Dont use high temp engine paint. No ammount of sanding and prep work will save it. mine looks like shiiiit. Use plastic paint. And make sure its a factory paint code. no matter how close you think it is it will look like ****. like mine!

My lid is a painted SLP lid. I think the reason (from what I've read before) for the rubbing MAY be that the lid isn't pushed onto the MAF housing tight enough. Mine was and still is a real pain. I know that the lid didn't look as if it got scuffed, but just a little bit of the clear on the paint got rubbed. I don't know if it is true about the theory posted above, but it would make sense.

I wish I would've thought about the black tape idea before. Good call.

I used a lot of clear and then I got some 3m paint protection film and put it where the clips hold the lid on. I had it on for a while without the film and it did fine too. Just be careful. If you want you could put some velcro and trim it enough that you can't see it with the clips in place.

As others have said, beware painting an SLP lid, chances are it'll rub, mine does. Pisses me off too, paid $125 to have it painted to match my FRC's and now it has a big rub spot in the middle of it.

Same exact story with mine. I thought I was gonna have to start taking anger management classes after I saw the rubbed area. I now have the felt over the damage and "claim" that it is to prevent damage...even though its actually used to hide the small rubbed area.

Got any pics of it, I've been trying to come up with something to hide mine that doesn't look worse than the rub spot. My lid is black so you wouldn't think it would be that hard but I've had no luck. Thanx.

For those of you that have problems with the hood rubbing on the lid, make sure that all 4 of the rear tabs are in their slots. You'll have enough room then.

i think it depends on the lid if you have rubbing or not. my texas speed lid seems to be a little smaller profile than slp and others.

i have a TSP lid and i just put on a WS9 hood and i didnt line it up all the way the first time i put it on. then i opened the hood the next day when i got home from work to line it up, and i noticed a rub mark on the lid. i adjusted the hood latch and lined up the hood, so hopefully it wont rub anymore.

a friend with a 35th Ann. SS has a felt-like chevy bowtie on his lid to stop the rubbing

Here is a pic of the overall engine. You can easily see the felt piece that I put on top. If you are looking for it, it sticks out. But most people didn't even see it (car shows) until I mentioned the felt on top.
