Default Night shade on a clear lid?

Hey guys, I really want a smoked lid from TSP, but they still don't have them ready. I was wondering if I could use that night shade spray stuff on a clear lid. Any feed back would be appreciated.

I've actually wondered that myself...with all the recent interest in smoked clear lids. If you paint it on the inside and polish the outside of the lid, you should get a nice smooth, glossy smoked lid...

I was thinking about that too since I have a clear lid and just got myself some night shades but I'd rather just have my clear lid

I called TSP last week, and they said that they have the clear lids, they just need to smoke em. Every time I call them they say call back in a month or so. They are real nice about it thought wich is a good thing.

definetely practice and get more than one can of nightshade cuz that stuff doesnt go too far. make sure you put it on in VERY light coats or it will crack as it dries , I learned that the hard way after my 3rd attempt at painting my 3rd brake light but damn it looks better now!

Yeah it would work. And it should look pretty good if you can get an even coat on it. I've used it on a few things and it works out. BUT there is a chance it might have a purple tint. I did my turn signal lenses and they had a little purple tint to them but you couldn't tell once they were on the car. They just looked smoked.

They have a purple tint in artificial light (aka when they're in your house and u're looking at them with lights on). When you take them outside the purple pretty much goes away. I thought the same thing when I painted mine. Took em outside and they didn't actually look as queer as they did inside.

Thank you!

Only suggestion I would have would be to paint the clear lid from the inside...

I would actually recommend the opposite. I'd rather have less crap on the inside to come off, no matter how large or molecularly small the pieces may be. Maybe it's just me, but why would you introduce chemicals into your intake air flow?

Once the paint is dry nothing should come off and there would be no chemicals to worry about. I would paint it from the inside too. The little radio controled nitro cars have the bodies that are clear and you paint them from the inside. I've run mine into all kinds of stuff and the paint hasn't come off.

Yea, I was debating this as well(wether to paint on the inside or outside). Thanks for the info guys. I will be ording a lid either today, or with in the next week. If TSP does not have the smoked lid offered, then I will either purchase the clear lid, or the carbon fiber lid depending on how I feel
