Default how much for a paint job?

The front and rear bumpers, hood, doors, sideskirts and front fenders are being repained (factory black) on my car by my insurance co. The body shop asked me if I wanted to pay out of my pocket to paint the rest of the car, which of course I do to ensure it matches and have a whole new paint job. I'm just wondering what is a fair price for the rest of the car? I'll be paying for the rear quarters, hatch, sail panel and spoiler. Thanks.

Isn't it usually around 2000? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

All depends on who does it and the quality of the job. Can range from $1500 to $10,000 easy.

Those sound like some very high numbers........I think you guys missed what I"m asking. I'll only be paying for the rear quarters, hatch, sail panel and spoiler. Thanks.

I did. I'm just trying to see if it's a fair price. They quoted me $500.

Well just painting both my rear quarter panels was little more than $450, so $500 for all you're getting done, I'd be wondering what he's skimping on

im going to have to say 500 is a decent price to have the rear all painted. I normally paint my own cars but i recently had to get my front bumper repainted but insurance took car of it and the total was about 600 bucks for just the front bumper so id say thats not to bad as long as they are doing a high quality job. The other thing you have to take into cosideration is are they going to paint the door/hatch jams????? If not that would save money but if your going to do it i would definitly advise you to do it right and that includes painting the jams! If you dont there will be a line where the original paint and the new paint is. This is something dealers definitly look for when doing a trade in or something a person looking to buy a car and knows what their looking at will check for!

$500 is a good price. As long as they do good work, I would say no need to look any further.

Are they even sanding/prepping the car before painting? Are they spraying the whole car at once or taking the parts off and painting them? They may be overcharging the insurance and just charging you a bit more since it's less work for them to only mask off the windows instead of sections of the car.

If your insurance is paying for most of the car to be painted then you should have to pay a dime unless they are charging you to prep the car. Also it would be easier for them to paint the whole car anyways because matching the new paint to the old paint is diffucult. More work in the end. Its sounds like they are trying to get some extra cash. Do you know how much your isurance is going to pay them?

$500 is a great price considering my boss charges $400 per panel paint only no body work.

If it aint damaged, the insurance company isnt going to pay to have it painted. They will only pay for the area that is damaged. Thats why he has to pay to paint the remainder of the car.

500 is very decent IMO, if its a reputable shop that garantees their work... can you get it for cheaper probably, will it be as good quality maybe maybe not, maybe even better?...

IF you don't know the shop that well...ask to see pics of their work, go check out some cars they recently painted or even ones still in their shop and seek out some references around town (dealerships/parts stores/etc). Make sure you have it done right the first time on paint.

The only way he gets it cheaper than that is with spray cans.
