Console Mounted Gauges... Take a Look!
To do this I bought some aluminum plate from a place online. I got a 12x12x.080" piece of 6061 aluminum for $10. It comes in a brushed finish. I then cut a template out of thick paper and made sure it fit nice. Then I outlined the piece onto aluminum and cut it out using a scroll saw. I used various forms of sanders and files to get the corners smooth and the edges less dull. Then I marked the holes and drilled them out using a 2" hole saw. Once the holes were deburred the gauges slid right in without any extra griding. I then glued the piece onto the console with two part epoxy. Once it was dried I ground out the plastic behind the holes so the gauges could go through. And thats it! I have enough aluminum to make 6-7 more if anyone wants one. It will be hard though as my only fitment checker(the console) is already used. And my initial template isn't quite the same finished product. If you are really interested, PM me and I will see what I can do.
I went with the slightly polished brush look over the all out polised look because I didn't want anything too flashy. Of course this mod did away with my little cellphone holder, or whatever that slot is for, and I had to get rid of the cigarette lighter. Since I don't smoke and rarely partake in acts of arson, losing the cigarette lighter was fine with me.
Here are some pics. This is the water temp gauge I'm going to put in it. But the boost gauge is just a gauge I haven't sold yet(it's for sale)
I plan on putting in an oil temp gauge so I have two identical looking gauges and this will make it easy to do fast comparisons between the two. I dont have any pics of the console in the car yet. I will have those tomarrow. Let me know what you think! Thanks for looking.12.14.05 - Here are some crappy pics of it installed.
