clay bar time

how long should it take me to claybar my TA?

also when im done i planned on doing the meguires (sp)

3 step...is that a good choice?

i would think no longer than 25 minnutes on the claybar.. and yes meguiars 3 step is a great choice, its exactly what i use and i love it.. i finish it off with nxt tech wax tho..

I disagree with 25 minutes. If you are to do it right and take your time and do it in small sections like your supposed to it should take closer to an hour to claybar. And I would agree with anotherreject about the Meguiars it is a great product and should finish your car very niceley

its a special piece of clay(almost like modeling clay) that you run over the exterior of your car with. what happends is over time dirt and pollution and all kinds of other **** bond into your paint and make surface really rough. go oustide and rub your fingers across your hood, it should be smooth as glass, if its not you need to claybar. basically, you use water and a type of soap as lubricant and rub the clay over the entire exterior and it pulls all this crap out of your paint, along with any type of wax or polish. it works really well and can also get alot of **** off that a sponge cant. you have to be careful though because if you dont do it right or get dirt on the clay it could cause swirls.

Speaking of clay bars.... what kind do you guys use? Ive used a zaino bar and it worked great with soapy water. I tried a mothers clay bar and it didnt work for ****... with either soapy water or the detailer spray. It left white streaks on the car that were hard to get off.

I wash, rinse, then use either soapy water or cheap detailing spray as a lubricant with the clay while the car is still wet, then wash the whole thing again, rinse and dry. From start to finish of all that takes me about 1.5 hours.

I typically use ClayMagic or Zaino. Mostly ClayMagic because I can buy it locally.

I'm not a big fan of the Meguiars 3-step kit. If you've clayed the car, there's no reason for a cleaner wax, their polish doesn't impress me all that much, and the final wax doesn't last very long. Clay it, polish it with a good polish to remove scratches and swirls, then seal it with either wax or a good sealant.

I got overspray on my wifes GTP a while back from painting some stuff outside and I used the Mothers Claybar Kit and it worked just fine.

the whole process took me about 4 hours...and it was my first time..i used the mothers clay bar kit which comes with the clay bar, some instant detailer which you use as a lubricant, and a small bottle of their wax (advertising IMO)
I then used Meguiars 3 step, and I took my time...all I have to say is HOLY **** BATMAN, it was smooth and still is...
