Default lt1 t/a taillights

How do you remove the red plastic on the lt1 taillights to make them clear? I've seen it done on many occasions but have no idea how they did it.

I saw a green one on here that said the taillights were stock but they made them clear by removing the red plastic inside the taillights.

you mean mine??
well when you take out the lights you will see on the back side that there is two pieces to it. just take a small flat head and slowly pry them apart. than clean off all the sealant and reapply new sealant. let dry and there ya go. i used led bulbs that light red that way it looks completely clear sitting there until they turn on.

if you took out the red part, then when they light up dont they just show the bulb entirely and not spread the light.from the look of it the red bard is a blury thick peice of plastic ment to spread the light.

I just did the same thing with my spare lt1 taillights and tried them on! Looks pretty good. Where did you get your red led bulbs at?

it spreads the light perfectly. the main reflector is behind the bulb. while yes the bulb looks a bit brighter but it gives it a very unique look driving behind it.

I've asked that in another forum, and they said you cant because the red plastic isnt the same as in the lt1 lights.
