Default Hand polishing a waste of time??

Before I get started, this isnt a how do I wash my car thread.

Waste I plan to wash my car again tomm and get her nice and pretty. The paint is still in really good condition, but I was thinking about putting some time into polishing out some of the swirls(not that you can really see them on my pewter car.) I don't have any experience with a porter cable and sont want to risk messing something up. So my question is...

Is using a hand polish, like ScratchX, a big waste of time???

hand polishing/waxing is not a waste of time. I apply by hand wax and polish, but if I am trying to get rid of swirls, I will use an orbital buffer. I will be buffing my car this weekend. Last weekend I washed, clayed, then put a coat of Zaino on it. This weekend its tropi-care swirl remover, then a count of Tropi-care TC-2. Hand waxing is not a waste of time by any means....go for it..

not a waste of time at all. Any form of paint care is WAY better than no care.

an orbital is really nice to have and easy to use. takes alot less muscle and gets the scrathes and swirls out easier. i have the 10" from sears

Hey,

New to the orbital thing. I have heard horror stories about burning holes in the clear? or something? Is an orbital something anyone can use? The ease of the orbital is very appealing, but at the same time I don't want to risk hurting the paint.

No, you`re thinking rotary. Orbitals won`t burn through.
I have a rotary, and using fine cut compound, it is really hard to go through the paint.

Meguiar's has a 'Tech Wax' now as their gold class replacement. Today i buffed and polished, than did a coat of ColorX, than Tech Wax instead of my can of Gold Wax. On my pewter car... omg. Actually, i'll go grab a pic of it right now

I used to work at a carwash and I did the wax jobs. We used electric buffers with Meguiers wax. Worked good . I did my car there once a month. for free
