I just finished a set and there is a LOT of labor involved... sanding, filling, sanding, priming, sanding, painting, sanding, more painting, more sanding... (do you see a pattern here?
)It's not difficult, but it's REAL time-consuming.
Here's a price breakdown....
Covers (new from dealer)... $70-$90
Filler... $15
Primer... $6
Sandpaper... $6
Paint (2 cans) ... $12
Paint (2nd Color)... $6
Masking tape ... $4
Clearcoat (2 cans) ... $12
You're already at $150 (+/-) and that doesn't even include any labor or decals.
Decals will run you about $25 - $50 depending what you order...
So you're at $200 if you do it yourself.
I have about 20 hours of labor in my FRC's and air lid.
So $300 isn't a bad price to have someone else do it.....
Here's a sneak-peak... waiting on my "TransAm" decals and "Firechicken"

Are you any good with a Dremel? That's a good tool to use to cut the plastic. (Dremel drill bit attachment)...
LOL. you say that so matter of factly.i'll elaborate more.
ive fiberglassed GM covers before for a friends car... for my car, the C5 covers look kinda silly.. they're too flat. so im making my own covers.
another friend of mine has carbon fiber covers that are a outer layer of CF, with a fiberglass backing under it... also not based on the GM covers.
has anyone else made their own covers? not modifed stockers, but made their own from sheetmetal, fiberglass, injection molded plastic, or whatever?
mostly, im just looking for something diffrent then filling in the corvette letters.. like modded LS2 or GTO or holden covers...
