Default Favorite car vacuum?

Anybody find anything good in the way of a vacuum to keep in the garage for car detailing? I had one of those hand held Shark vacs for a few years but it finally broke. This one was like the dustbuster size but *really* powerful even compared to a lot of larger ones, it just filled up really fast. I'm thinking of going the Shop Vac route this time and have a little more canister room and wet/dry capabilities, but wasn't sure if the relatively small ones were decently powerful. Any other ideas? Looking for great suction, attachments that get into the car well, can be either charged or plug-in. Thanks.

I just picked this up at Target for 30 bucks. It has a small hose attached with the corner piece inside the hose. Plus it has a rotary brush to get hair out of the carpets real easy like.

Which one did you go with? They offer a really portable one (like it comes with a strap you can put on your shoulder) but if I was gonna bother I'd want a rolling canister R2D2-lookin one. The smallest one is under $30 but only 1 HP and I wasn't sure if the larger 2-3 HP ones would be much better. I want good suction but I wouldn't really need any more canister space than what the smallest one has.

I have the Shop Vac that hangs on the wall, and comes with a 25 foot hose .. has plenty of suction, and if I need to move it closer to something, it unhooks from the wall instantly.

got it at lowes for like $60 bucks ..

I use it for dry pickups only, I use a seperate, small shop vac or my big floor model for the wet stuff.

I had a Shark and thought it was terrible. It's worth it to just get near a power outlet and use some kind of corded unit.

My Shark was a corded unit. It's an Ultra Shark maybe they're different. Yeah, I probably actually prefer corded due to the increase in power and infinite timeframe to use them. It was still really small though...like I said Dustbuster size but with plenty of tube attachments.

Sounds cool. My cordless had like 5 minutes of usage and didn't suck like a vaccum should.

I have a 5 gal 5 hp Craftsman. I'm not really happy with it - I need/prefer more suction.

I have heard good things about the Rigid vacuums from Home Depot.

The Kirby. I figuered for the price I paid for it, better get all the use out of it I can. I love to wash the car (exterior), but often neglect the interior... it's to much like work...

Shop Vac is the way to go. I got my 16 gal at Sears for like 75 bucks on special. I get water in my garage due to a high water table and I just pull the filter to suck up the water. Once I clean out the vac I just stick the filter back in and use it vaccuum the car. Nothing sucks better than a Shop vac. Great tool to have for lots of reasons.

I have a corded Shark vac too. I bought it for the car but it clogs too quickly and loses suction so I rarely use it in the car.

The like $1000 one they come to your house and sell you? They really suckered us into buying one when they showed how much "body ash" it could lift off a pretty clean looking sofa. That thing did have a lot of nice attachments and features, it even did a damn good job buffing the floor. Ours broke a few years ago though we had a mid-90's model. I didn't know anyone else had those.
