Need Interior Accent Color (black car, charcoal interior)
Hey guys, I have a black 99 TA with the solid charcoal interior and I'm trying to think of an accent color that can be added.
I think most of you will know these stock interiors.
I don't want to paint anything, I'm thinking of new vinyl material that can be used on the door panel inserts, front seat inserts (maybe - no back seat) a big amp rack on top of the gas tank and to wrap 2 big cylinders in the back hatch holding 12" subs.
I think those are the main items I want to change the color of. Suede may also be an option. I kind of like it's soft texture in comparison to vinyl. Either way it will be a soft material similar to the stock stuff.
I'm not sure of what color to use, but I'm thinking of something similar to these.
Now if your going to make a joke, please move on to another thread. I'm trying to be very serious here.
I may make the door panel inserts, amp rack cover and subs out of wood and stain and clear them (I started a thread on that), but I was thinking a lighter color as opposed to dark wood might look better. Stock these cars are all just one shade of gray which is OK, but I think I need something to liven it up.
If you have any other color ideas, please post them up. I'm pretty open minded right now.

#6 because its a lighter gray. I dont think any of the colors with brown in them would look good with your graphite interior unless you put all ebony interior in it. If you went full ebony then go for #9

No, I'm not changing any interior panels to ebony. I may use that same ebony color though for my inserts. Overall the inside will remain charcoal. Instead of colored seat inserts, I could have a bird or pontiac logo stitched to the headrest or seat back in a matching color and maybe even a matching stiching in the floor mats to tie it all together.
Number 6 is kind of a light gray or off white. It's a good choice.
I was kind of leaning towards #3. Has kind of a richness to it.
I'm not really familiar with the ebony interiors. Anyone have any good pics of one?

Here's some silver/gray choices.
It would need to be fairly light as the darker grays will blend in with the factory interior color. I think I'm on the right track with a light gray. I'll probably need to go and get some samples to hold against the door to see how it would look.
I'm leaning towards the top 3 for some reason.

I'm starting to think that I don't need a dramatically lighter shade of color in the car, just lighten it a few shades so that it has some contrast. It will be more subtle, but still noticable. If I can get suede then that will also help to make it stand out even though the color will only be a little lighter than stock.
Check out this suede sample.
I think it looks pretty good.
Here's one that is shiny, I don't know about it.

Here's some examples of seat colors that are very contrasting.
See how too much contrast between the 2 colors just doesn't look very good? Maybe it's just me, but I think the light colors in those pics are too light. If they were a bit darker, it would look a lot better, IMO.

I like the suede (not shiny) sample you showed above...
The great thing about using different materials (leather and suede) is even similar colors will still stand out due to the different textures and you don't have to go with wildly contrasting colors to get the point across...

I did some new Photoshops of my actual door panels. The first one is the stock color and then they go slightly lighter in each step. Each pic is named with a number.
Here's a handy thumbnail for a quick overview.

As far as lighter I like Lighter 4. Anything after that is too light and reminds me of the crappy light grey interiors on the LT1 models.
Lighter 1-3 would only be cool if it was suede...
The Daker ones (from the next post) just cheapen the look to me.
No Red Leather insert for you?

I was thinking about Lighter#5 being the limit. So 4 or 5 in suede I think would be awesome. You think 1 or 2 in suede would look OK? They are so close in color.
I absolutely can't stand red interiors so there will be no red. Sorry.
BTW, my "accent" color under the car is already yellow (TQ arm, sway bars, shocks, springs, calipers, panhard bar, etc...), but I serioulsy don't want that in my interior! I'm keeping it under the car. So any red parts in the car, even small ones, just don't make sense to me.
