Default This ruined my day!!!

I drove my SS to work today, I was heading to an open house right after work & wanted to take it.

Driving on the interstate in pretty heavy traffic (65mph) & I hear rocks pelting the front of my car. I quickly spot the offending vehicle, a truck with an empty flatbed trailer, that has a bunch of gravel & concrete chunks on it, not tarped. I speed up to pass & BAM!!!! Bigass star in the middle of my windshield. I get beside the guy, put down the window & start yelling at him. He won't stop or follow me, so I got a phone number off of the truck & a plate number. I get to my exit & look the car over, tons of fresh chips in the front bumper, hood, wind shield, roof & rear spolier...My car was not "perfect" before, 66k miles, way above average looking & it got blasted bad... I decide to hit a Chevy body shop & have it looked at. The estimator says they have several a week, because of all of the raod construction in the area and careless load haulers.... The result, a $3600 estimate.... I am filing a PD report tonight at the advice of my insurance company... Hopefully I can get the truck owners insurance info and get them to pay for the damages on thier liability coverage.

Here is a pic of the rock chip mobile...No damage pics.

My dad works for a construction company, and he always gets pissed when he sees truckers being irresponsible with **** flying out of the bed because the trucking companies are fully responsible for any damages caused by their negligence.

Good luck man.

I was with my buddy on a snowy, icy day in NY when a huge sheet of ice came off the top of the truck in the lane next to us. It all happened in the blink of an eye. We didn't even know what hit us. The windshield of the car collapsed right onto our faces and chest. Luckily we didn't get hurt and I had the common sense to tell my buddy not to slam the brakes because that would have caused us to get rear ended. We followed the truck and he didn't want to pull over. He kept pointing at his door for us to write the phone number. Apparently it is a frequent event. He eventually pulled over and the police responded to take a report. My buddy made a claim against the insurance on the truck and got paid.
I would guess that MAY be the reason your truck driver didn't pull over.
Either way you slice it, if insurance is involved you will have to fight it out with them. They are quick to collect premiums and slow to pay out. When they finally pay out they find a way to short you somehow.

Sucks man. Such a gorgeous car too.

Do your best to get that company to pay for a fresh repaint and let us know how it goes!

It could be worse, it still sucks though. On July 8th I am taking it to a show, now it won't look nearly as clean.

Here in Detroit the glass companies pay gravel trucks to just drive around all the time.

Seriously.

I drive a dump truck as my summer job, and there's NO excuse to not have a load tarped or toally secured so that no rocks find their way on to the streets and into people vehicles. Go after them, man, and nail them!

X2. I was passing a empty dump truck the one time and didn't know the damage it made on the front of my car until the next day. I have a lot more little chips in my paint now.

Thats sucks man, sorry to hear that.

I was driving under a bridge where they were redoing the bridge. A bunch of rocks fell on the front bumper of the car and the hood. I filed a police report and notified the construction company as well. That same day after work, I went to 5 different body shops trying to get as high of an estimate as I could. I basically went in there and told them I dont care how much its going to cost me, I just want it done 100%. Lowest estimate was $800, and the highest was $2800.00. I presented the construction company with the $2800 estimate, and they wrote me a check. I then took my car to a friends body shop and he charged my $400. Hood and bumper look better than new, and with the extra cash I bough some new rims and tires and had money left over.

I know that a lot of people don't like bras on F-bods, but mine saves my paint almost every time I'm out. Lots of small rocks on the roads here in Wy. So far, no big ones have hit my windshield. Not so with my daily driver S10. Every time I talk about changing the windshield, I get hit again. So long as it's not broken in my line of vision, I don't have to change it out. Soon though....

Ticks me off when the dump trucks haul loads of gravel (or whatever) without a tarp on them! I spoke to the local police about this about a week ago and they said there wasn't a law about it here...just said they aren't suppose to fill it over the sideboards...yet they always do (by at least a few feet) and it spills out the back on the highway. I picked up two small chips on my hood a few weeks ago from this, when the truck hit a bump, but was so mad I didn't think to take his license plate info as I blasted by him. Something does need to be done about it though. People just shouldn't have to worry about crap like that from truck drivers (or stone queries, since they are the ones overfilling). I'm not done complaining about it here...just been too busy with work to make a bigger stink about it.
