Default Dash Cracking!!!!!!

Son of a bitch! My dash just got a 3'' crack on it. That f'in sucks. I regularly use formula 2001 to shine and condition it. It has to be the f'ed up hot *** So. Cal weather that did it. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what can I do to keep it from spreading cuz I dont want to have to take the whole dash out.

Mine cracked from the heat. I had to deploy for the last 2 summers, and leave my car parked outside in the heat. I even put a car cover on, and it did not help. It blows big time.

this happens to all F-body's here, its just too hot, I just covered it cos fixing it will be just plain stupid in here.

the cover was custom made, and fits perfect, only for 10$.

I always make sure mine is in the shade or in the garage as much as possible in order to keep interior temps down and decrease the chance of my dash cracking. It's one of my biggest concerns with the car.

I also live in Ca so I know exactly what you are talking about. I'm going to be installing a sunshade soon, hopefully that solves this problem.

Mine is cracked too. I used superglue to put the crack back together and it doesn't look nearly as bad as when there is the separation in the crack. I am going to wait until I get the car tinted and a sunshade to replace it. It does suck!

Where is the crack guys?

If it's in the same place as my brothers the panel is easily replaceable .

Mine is above the passenger airbag. I'm going to replace when it's time to do interior mods.

Mine got 2 huge cracks in it also... So I just install a trusty dash mat.... Covered it up and doesn't really look that bad! Best $30 investment!

I have three 4th Gens (97 Camaro, 99 Firebird, 94 Firebird) and all 3 have cracked dashes. The 94 is almost completely shattered, and the 97 is halfway there. The 99 has a small one that I'm sure will spread. It must be all this Ohio desert heat!

Really poor material choice on GM's part--and too thin at that!

I know it's too late now, but if you got your windshield tinted it probally would of helped keep the interior heat down a little. I have mine tinted it helps out quite a bit.

Oh you guys are gonna love this... My has been cracked since I got it, was saving everything up for the move here and the dash was no hurry. So before Christmas I ordered a new one from there, was ordered by VIN number and all... arrived here a month later and with shipping it costed almost double of what they do there. I opened the box to make sure the basic shape was right and it looked like it was (quickly), I then removed my old dash which completely fell apart during removal, put the new dash in and it doesnt fit... It was for a Camaro. I was pretty pissed considering it was ordered by VIN (and I gave them year, model, etc...). Good thing is I was able to sell it here, since then Ive been riding around without a dash top at all, the black stuff under it extremely reflective (real bad), I ordered a new dash a few months back but it never came so Im waiting to order some other stuff at the same time...

Yeah, I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it for now. the crack starts on the left side of the center vent on top. then travels to the left about 3''. Theres no gap in the crack yet, I just hopes it does'nt get worse. BTW Your camaro looks awesome SUMMER.

guys, this baffles me, as I have a 2000, and due to the contant work I've been doing to the interior of the car over the past 3 years, I've had my dash pad in and out more times then I can count. Yet with all of this man-handling, I have no cracks at all. But, I have the bottom of the dash covered in Dynamat Extreme sound deadener. Perhaps the extra mass helps dissipate the heat and keeps the dash from expanding too fast. Not sure, but just wanted to mention it incase anyone else wants to give it a try.

I had no idea our dashes were susceptible to this. My POS daily driver (a '93 Ford Probe GT) has a couple HUGE cracks in the dash but then again it's 13 yrs old w/ 140K miles. My TA gets a lot of garage time now that I have the daily driver so hopefully I bought myself at least a few more years until it happens.
