I have 20% on my tops and 5% on the rest. It still gets way too hot in my car and has burned out two alarm systems now. I have resorted to also using the shades during the summer time, which does help out alot.
but its still hot as hell when i get out of work....

So...what Im reading is that if you use BLACK cheapo tint you run the risk of having a problem BUT..if you use the meatal based..ie teh expensive stuff..is ok?

just a quick tip that i have been using. if you dont want to put up the shades or put tint on the t-tops incase of spider cracks but dont want your seats to be 100+ degrees in the summer, than just leave your seat folded fowards towards the steering wheel like someone is trying to get into the backseat. I do this and it keeps the sun off of your seats and onto the back part. when you get in and put your seat back to its driving position the front part of the seat is fine.

hope this helps someone.

What I'm reading is that the stock (built-in) tint on our t-tops will absorb heat, while film tint will reflect heat. So, when you tint your t-tops, whatever heat the t-tops allows to pass through, will be reflected by the tint film layer, back onto it.

Yikes.

5% on mine as well... Never had a problem with mine shattering, nor have the 100+ people I personally know with tinted t-tops. Comparing plate glass (ie. most home windows and car windshields are laminated plate) and tempered glass (like your t-tops and side windows) is like comparing apples to oranges, they've got totally different chemical compositions and react very differently to different conditions.

I personally leave my t-tops shades in 99% of the time though since I spend an average of 3-4 hours per day in my Formula. Will soon be having my side windows redone with double layer 5% instead of just single 5%... i've looked into having my windshield done with ~50% to cut out some more rays... but I have enough problems with the law as it is... I don't need another problem that I can't hide from their view.

Well then. Im not too sure what I've gotten out of this thread. haha

So will a high quality tint bypass this problem entirely?

You should and most likely will be fine,

i was just supporting what someone else said that there is a possibility it can absorb a ton of heat and crack the glass.

I dont think it is possible for the T top to crack from heat outside. I have never heard of it, The glas is tempered anyway which makes it stronger.

i've never seen t-tops crack either, but a windshield on a Benz that i tinted spider cracked all the way across it after it sat out for a while...that was a shitty mistake

and the windshields are tempered as well....i'm not saying that he'll have a problem, and think it would look sweet....but there is always that possibility

Definitely makes a world of difference!!! I had to take my side tint off the car to pass inspection, and when I was getting back in my car anytime during the day, it was a furnace when you open the door. I am putting my limo tint back on the windows ASAP and I have used the top shade covers since having the car. Both keep everything cool inside, and if you are like many of us with leather, you know what hot leather does to skin.

It may be slightly cooler in the summer months it theyre tinted, but during winter you want as much sun in as possible to help heat the car.
