Default Windshield removal problems...

So I had an autoglass company come out to replace my cracked windshield and they said they couldnt get one of the wiper blade arms off so they couldnt replace the windshield. Any ideas how I can fix this problem?

What you do is:

1. turn the car on and the wipers on, cut off the ignition while they are up.

2. turn car off, rotate them manually down to the bottom of the wiper stroke (but not farther than that, to the off position)

3. take off the bolt, then pull up on the arm and wiggle it sideways slightly while doing that

That's how I took mine off, and it was easy. This was on an lt1 though, so i'm not sure if the ls1s are different. The position of the arm when you are trying to pull it off is important, it wouldn't come off for me in any other position. If they tried to take if off in the full down position, that's probably why it didn't work.

If that doesn't work there is a special tool you can get to pull them off.

No ****. Taking a wiper arm off is not rocket science. Remove the nut and tap the stud with a hammer while pulling up on the arm.

Well they said that they couldnt get the tool on there in the proper angle for the tool to work. It did seem a little rediculous. Anybody have a glass company in Northern VA that they KNOW will work?

just use a reputable company that has trained techs uses good products and good name brand glass. You may check witrh some of the nicer local body shops see who they would recomend to you. Also you always get what you pay for so dont always just choose the cheapest ask questions.

When they replaced my windshield, I don't think they took the wiper arms off the car.

Hmm...I dont know. I thought they always had to remove the wiper arms. Maybe they didnt know what they were talking about. I just called another company and they wanted to charge me $350 for a windshield replacement. Thats a bit high I think.

I had a lot of trouble with my pass. side wiper coming off. A battery terminal puller is what got it off though...no problem. Just an idea.

Nokeman,
I had my Dakota winshield replaced last summer in my driveway. I was very impressed with this guy's skill and speed. He had the job completed in less than an hour (no problem with wiper arms). Damned if I can remember the name of the company. I'll look around for the reciept.

Haha dont worry so much about that inspection. I drove around for a month with no front plate, no inspection and no county tag and I had no problems.
