Default Fixing a "loose" door handle

My drivers side door handle seems to have broken internally. It still works but, it doesnt stay tight like it is supposed to, it just flaps loose. When I shut the door it rattles a little.

Is this a broken spring or something?

Is this something that I can fix myself or should I have a shop fix it?

mine does the same thing...maybe not as extreme, but it's a bit lose, mines a 98 as well...maybe they just get worn out over time???....

i've actually looked at mine a few times, it looks like the rivets that hold the handle on mine are loosening up

Edit....by the way i still think your hood is the ****!!! if my car was a Z i would SO get that hood...it looks TOUGH!!!!

If you take the door panel off there are two 11m speed nuts that hold the door handle on tight... I don't think you can see them, but feel them (with the window up). Tighten those and it should be good to go.

If that doesn't work you will have to buy a new handle...

I think there is a spring that pulls the handle back when you pull on it. Maybe it broke or something. I had it happen on my old 442 a couple of times and it's a similar design

another vote for the spring theory...its a slinky looking thing and over time it just stretches i guess...but i would also check those two lil speed-nuts mentioned above, since ur gonna mess with it anyways..good luck

That was EXACTLY what it was. Both nuts were loose, tightened them and now everything is back to normal.

Thanks.

My driver's side is a little loose too. I'll have to check that out and see if it fixes mine.

Take out the screws and remove the inside door handle trim, the little sail panel piece, and the armrest mounts. Then simply lift up and out. It is very simple and quick.

You also have to unsnap the lock tab, so dont forget that.

There is a spring, Mine does the same thing but I found the spring that broke and fell out. I haven't tried the screws yet.... Im just waiting for the window motors to go out again before taking off the panel, So I spend all day working, and make sure I cut my hands all to hell.
