Default !side molding and decals

Hey guys, I started taking my side molding and decals off. I dont know if the adhesive behind them was factory or replaced due to an accident or some other reason. The titles clean but there are ways around that. Anyways the adhesive is really thick and strong. It left tons behind on the car after the molding was removed. I try heating it this it helped some to remove it but not enough. Does anyone have any suggestions on any products or methods that will safely remove the adhesive? Thanks!

good fingers, your thumb works great. I acutually noticed that if I left the tape on for a few days and then tried to peel it off it would come of easier. But then again, driving around with the tape doesn't look good.

not to hijack the thread here... but i've been wanting to do this, but i'm a little nervous. i took my ram air decals off and now i have "ghost" ram air lettering on my hood from the difference in paint fade. for the ram air i think this looks kinda cool, still being able to see it at the right angle. i'm worried though that if i take my side molding off i'll have a stripe of discoloration down the side of my car? am i just being paranoid? will it not be noticable since this is the side of the car and maybe the paint hasn't faded as much as one of the top surfaces of the car? fyi... my ride is a 2000. what do you guys think? safe to go for it?

i started to do mine today and it has turned into a PITA. I have some adhesive remover and that is taking most of it off. But since mine is a 92 i guess the adhesive has corroded a bit more and has left a black outline of where the molding was. Im gonna buy some better adhesive remover tomorrow and see what i can get off of it. But the part i have done looks awesome, really cleans up the body lines.

Same thing I used, and it works great!

Llust1WS6, I think you are just being paranoid like you mentioned, mine is a 2000 as well and I did it, everything was fine afterward.

dirtybird22, I agree with what you said as well, its a PITA job. But how clean it makes the body lines in the end makes it very worth it

You think i will be able to notice a difference in the the paint under the molding on a 1998 red car? Im thinking the rest of the car will be a little faded than whats under the molding so ill have darker red stripes on my doors.

Is yours the orignal paint job dirty bird? Did you notice anything like that?

a hair dryer works fine, just not as fast. i did mine with a hair dryer and it looked really good. when you get to the adhesive left over, dont bother heating that up cuz it doesnt really help. just keep workin it off then clean the rest with laquer thinner or alchohol.

Goo Gone or some kind of Automotive Tar and Bug remover should get it. That's what I used on my '02 and my '92 removing the side molding.

I got the Goo Gone at Lowe's and you should be able to get tar and bug remover and almost any auto store.......
