Default rear hatch TINT problem! (micro dot finish)

Got my car tinted at a reputable place about six months ago. 30% all around. The top of the rear hatch never sealed all the way and looks "blotchy" I took it back a couple times and the guy said it needs more time to bake in around the micro dot finish, I took it back again and he said that he can't do much because the rear hatch is a hard to tint. He said he could pull it off and refund me my money but any place I take it around town is going to have the same trouble. What should I do? Any way I can work with it? heat gun, solution on it,etc? need help!

3m makes it, and of course the tint(er) can do it, but there are vinyl srips that cover those dots. i have them. a piece of tint can also be used, or two i think they do. im not sure. but 3m does make a vinyl overlay for it. hope it helps.

Its normal, some tinters use a special glue stick to help it stick and not bubble up again. Mine is like that, but you barely notice it.

So do you apply these strips after your tint is finished? which ones do you have on yours and do you have pics of yours?

So apparently he's speaking for all the tinters in your area and stating that they don't know what they're doing...

Had my rear hatch tinted - done in one piece, no special crap done in the dot area, and after 1 week in the sun you can't tell the dots were ever there.

Guy we used has done MANY windows like these and guaranteed before he did the job that they would not be noticeable after he was done. I was skeptical, but he was correct

Paid $260 for my rear hatch and side windows - plus he came to my house to do our cars.

Most every car Ive seen with the Dot matrix spots doesnt stick. Its not an uncommon thing to see this on our cars.

This should not be a problem if you go to a guy who knows what he is doing. I got mine done about 4 months ago on my trans am and it looks perfect. And I didn't even have to pay a lot $100.

Just have a piece of vinyl put over the dots instead of tint.

Other options: glue the tint down, or crape the dots down so the tint can stick

well I am thinking about goin to a couple places and asking them if they can do a better job.. I don't really want to put vinyl over it... I would have to put vinyl on the outside I take it? So there is NO way to work the bubbles out? With Heat or a solution???

Vinyl on the INSIDE where the dots are that meets the tint under the dots.

when i got mine tinted, the guy said that he cannot tint over the microdot as it will never stick forever. So about 7/8ths of the rear window is tinted.

hmm did I mention I did 30% so I dont know if butting up black vinyl to that would look good and I deffinately wouldn't want to just get 7/8 done. I may go around and just ask a couple tint shops if they can do a better job then whats on it.

2 years ago, I had our local tint shop tint my back hatch glass, 5%.
The tint covers everything up to the dots, then he used a black vinyl strip to cover the top area where the dots are.

From the outside, you cant tell a differeance from the tint to the vinyl.
From the inside, i simply can see out of the dot area, but can see out of the tint.

Works for me. 2 years, no problems. I'm happy with it.

Now if NYS would just get over the side tint law. :-)

Is the vinyl strip on top of the tint and dot matrix, or does the tint stop at the dots, and you have vinyl from there up?

My back tint is flawless. All you have to do is paint the inside of the glass from the first defroster line up with flat black engine enamel.
