I use a Canon A630, it's a nice camera for the <$250 range. All depends on your price limit and what size you want (among a few other features).

I personally use a Kodak Easyshare 5mp DX4530. Its a nice little camera for pointing and clicking but it you can't do anything advanced. Don't get me wrong it takes nice pictures. It took this picture:

Other than the border the picture is unedited. This camera pics up the lows and mid tones really well but tends to wash out the bright values as will most low-mid end digi cameras.

If you really want nice photos, dont get any kind of p'n's cameras. Get a dSLR camera, I use a Nikon D50.

+1 But be ready to empty your wallet, these things aren't cheap. But totally worth the quality and features.

Point 'n' Shoots are tiny cameras with lots of megapixels...But their processors/chips are really tiny and dont hold any kind of great value.

A dSLR is a camera with moderate or high megapixels that can change out lenses and have nice size processors/chips to hold more value information.

<~ point n shoot

<~ digital SLR

trust me dont get a 600$ 11 megapixel camera thats the size of a quarter. pay 600$ for a camera that is going to show you a photo the way your eyes seen the photo.

There are some quality point and shoots hitting the market these days. With a little know-how you can get some great pictures. dSLR is the way to go though if you're looking for quality shot after quality shot. I'm a big fan of Canon's point and shoots and if you're stepping up into dSLR territory I have played with a Canon Digital Rebel XT, a Nikon D50, and a Nikon D80 and prefer the Nikons over the Canons. Its really all user preference though.

I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel XT. Good enough for magazine features in GM High Tech

Most of the other magazine guys use Canon also.

I use a Canon 20D SLR which will be replaced with the 40D when it comes out. My boyfriend uses a Canon Rebel XT soon to be replaced with the XTI. Before the Canon I had a Nikon D1X SLR. Wish I could get the D2X but I dont have $5000k sitting around.

Rebel XT is a good choice or the Nikon D200.
