Default 4th gen KITT

i need a new bumper for my 94 firebird. I stumbled upon this in the looking process. I really like this bumper. I dont think id use it to make a kit car but i might. Bout a 50/50 chance. Either black out my car and do exactly what they did here with all the lights OR make the scanner area a ram air and putt grills where all thos fogs are on the bottom. BUt then i noticed they want an absurd $3500 for the bumper!!!!! whats wrong with them? no one bumper is worth over 3 grand. So needless to say, my car wiont be looking like this. For less than half you can buy that one banshee conversion kit. Either way, still cool and i thought it was a find worhty of a post here.

that bumper actually doesn't look bad. Better than the T/A bumper lol.

But that scanner would be hideous.

I saw these several years ago when I was looking for something. They look good but the price is insane. If they'd drop the price some they'd make up for it in volume.

I personally think it looks like @ss, and I'm a Knight Rider fan (first car was Black 1987 Firebird that I installed the bumper and light on)...

MY recommendation would be to do an LS1 front end conversion (MUCH cheaper) but use a Formula front bumper and cut out the center divider at the top, smooth it out and use that opening for a Knight Rider light... Would look 100x's better than what they are offering and MUCH closer to the original design of the 3rd Gens...

If you aren't going to do the light then PLEASE don't do the LS1 conversion... I think LT1 Trans-Ams (especially with a WS6 hood) are some of the best looking F-Bodies ever made

i have a 99 trans am ls1 and i also have a 1996 harley davidson ws6. So both those options are already used up and i want something different. although i would love an ls1 front with a hardtop but then id have two identical cars. Ill either do this or an original bumper. maybe and ls1 formula front end with the wings west kit. But again-everyone has that

The guy who made the bumper in the first post (Don Colie) also has a 1998 Black Trans Am A4 as a DD. I was talking to him and he may be doing an LS1 front end also. I know he did a one-off dash and nose in a 98 TA for a guy who had a lot of coin to drop. As LastKnight can tell you, all of this is done by hand. Don managed to follow the factory lines for his 93-97 nose pretty damn good. It is a time consuming process. There are 3 or 4 people who make these noses for 4th gen LT1s. Don made my full Knight Rider dash by hand for my 89 Formula 350. (See sig for pics = Shameless plug ) Some people may not have the interest in a 1982 Trans Am KITT conversion, but want something with a more modern Knight Rider style. I have seen this car many times in person and it is truly a work of art, but not everybodys cup of tea.

Then buy the core for $250 and finish it yourself and add whatever buttons/switches or functions you want to it. This is ONE GUY who makes all this stuff in his shop. No help, no assembly line, nothing. It is a high price? Yes. Is in unrealistic? No. With the bumpers, he'll offer them in various stages. When I bought my dash and bumper, I bought them finished since I have NO CLUE how to work with fiberglass. That's where the cost comes in.

Here is a pic of the dash I bought from him. How you see it in the car is how I picked it up. Finished and ready to go. Could I have got in cheaper? Maybe. So I picked up an unfinished non painted dash, a ziploc bag with 300 LEDs, 6 circuit boards, 2 miles of wire and 880 resistors and capacitors. Do you think I can put it together? **** no. That's where the $ comes in. I found out the hard way that the Knight Rider hobby is expensive. But you know what, the $2300 I have to drop for a Moser 9" ain't exactly cheap either. $1300 for a OEM WS6 hood plus cost to paint is nuts also. People want it, they do it. Prices are "ridiculous" everywhere you look. If you think you can make it better and cheaper, go for it.
