Default How do I remove tint?

Apparently Trussville (AL) has run completely out of crime. Some retarded cop ticketed me because my tint was too dark. It was applied by the previous owner so I'm really ticked off. I appreciate the work that cops do, but only when it's actually solving a problem. This ranks about a five on the doughnut scale.

Anyway. I suppose it's time to remove my tint. How? Will I need something to remove the left over goo?

On the side windows I just used a razor blade. On the rear window I cut a black garbage bag the size of the window, wet the window with a spray bottle, stuck the bag on the window, shut the doors and waited about twenty minutes. Not all of it peeled off at a time but it did come off easily. Keep in mind that I live in Florida and it was fairly hot and sunny that day. The heat generated from the bag loosens the glue and the tint comes right off.

Hope that helps,

Jeff

Normally with a good quality tint, you can just grab a corner and pull slowly. The whole sheet of film should come off. Otherwise alot of elbow grease if cheaper tint was used.

I just used a razor blade to remove the tint in a corner and then pulled. I used the razorblade again to remove the glue...which is a huge pain.

basically wet it with soap and water or whatever you want to use. Then peel a corner at try to pull it off...just make sure u keep it wet (water and vinegar works as well) and use the razor blade to get off the glue.

What about on the rear window? Are the defrost lines on the surface of the glass? Is there any solvent that I could use on the glue?

I would think that something citrus based would work well, or maybe rubbing alcohol. Would either of those hurt?

once you get a corner peeled on the doors, just keep spraying soapy water or denatured alky hawl to break the bond and it will all come off in one sheet. i dont think you have to peel the back window. but im in NC so im sure the law is different. bummer tho,

I"ll search for the law. If I don't have to remove the back window, then I'll be happy. That's what makes night driving bearable when some loser behind me has one light on bright and another not. I don't know how they pull it off, but I see that all to often.

Nope, it appears the rear has to go too. This is going to be a pain...

I would take it to a tint shop for the backwindow. My buddy owns a tint shop and he told me to take the sides off myself but not to touch the back cause it's a bitch with the defroster lines

A steamer will work best for removing tint. The back window you can steam and then use a reallly fine steel wool to get the residue. It works really well.

Im telling you, if its hot and sunny, wet the window, put a black garbage bag on it, shut the doors and wait about 20-30 minutes. Youll have the steaming effect HIGH PRESSURE is talking about and it will come right off without hurting the defrosters.

I would give that a shot, but it's barely into the 40s here, and I need the tint gone asap.

I read on a detailing site somewhere that they spray ammonia, I think, on it and put the garbage bag/plastic over it and park it with the window facing the sun. I'm pretty sure it was ammonia but not positive. You could try doing a search on google for tint and ammonia. I'm at work and can't access google or I would do it.

Peel it off, then soak it with Windex, let it sit a while, then use a razor to get the glue off (it will be messy and like snot). As for the rear, dunno. You DO NOT want to scrape off the defroster. Try what the others said. Just my 2 cents, hope it helps
