Default Painted Carbon Fiber SS Hood

This is actually just a continuation of another thread, but it was the 4th page before there were pics, so I didn't want to add anything else to it. The hood is solid carbon fiber, it weighs just under 14lbs with the paint and latch attached. I'm going to put hood struts back on it, but as you can imagine the factory 78 lbs struts are a little too strong. The hood will also be pinned down at the front corners; I'm using flush-mount locking pins, I'm not much of a fan of pins on f-bods... but I don't want to lose the hood, and the pass. front corner could use some help leveling out. Anyways, pics below. Before I get slammed, please note that the hood cost the same as an aftermarket fiberglass hood, shaved about 50lbs off my stock Z hood, and is much stronger that fiberglass (i.e. if I get stuck in traffic during hail...) If this still makes me rice... well... you'll just have to come get some!

Looks good man. I especially like how you painted the hood minus the scoop. Did you get this from Ebay?

Wow, I think somebody's going to radically increase their chances of getting STDs. Love the hood, looks awesome.

Lol, that's f'n awesome, I about fell out of my chair!

I love the hood; I got it from Octane Motorsports off of Ebay, though it's made by C-wings, who dominantly make pieces for imports and 4 cyl domestics. Thought I'd give it a shot, and I'm quite glad!

The only complaint is that to do the paint pattern, they couldn't use a primer (it would have stacked the paint too high around the stripe) and the paint pinholed into the porous carbon fiber (surprise!). They sanded, cleared, sanded cleared, and then sanded and cleared, but it's still there, though only in shadows at the right angle. The same company also makes a hatch, spoiler, tail panel, fenders, and door skins, but I really don't think any of that would offer the same weight loss. I'm settling for using a vinyl CF pattern to continue the Manta pattern on the hatch and spoiler, gotta wait 30 days for the paint to oxidize though.

bad ***. It's only rice if it's not functional. i.e. carbon fiber dash kits, for decoration, etc. That is f'in sweet.

you did the right thing by painting it. i hate when people just leave it carbon fiber(no paint). looks good

I think an all-black car can pull off unpainted CF.
