VHT Niteshade + Front Yellow Side Marker = Red illuminated blacked out side marker
Anyone had this problem? I spray VHT niteshades on the front side marker turn signal and it lights up red now. This is for a thirdgen though.

In other words, when I turn on the parklights the front side markers look just as red as the rear red side markers.
I'll probably end up going all LEDs eventually but I'll try amber colored light bulbs in the meantime.

Ok, just tried an amber colored bulb and it still does the same thing.
Here's something I found out. If I take out the niteshaded side marker and hold it up to a regular light bulb so light shines through it, it will light up red. If I hold it up to a fluorescent light bulb, it will light up a dim yellow. Light bulbs put out all kinds of frequencies of light, fluorescent puts out only one frequency which is why fluorescent lights are more efficient. Anyway, LEDs also put out only one frequency so I'm betting that some superbright LED bulbs would be a fix.
I also think VHT niteshade might have a bit of red in it, maybe trying testors tint paint might also be a solution.

Never had this problem with mine. Just running the Pepboys replacement bulbs in all the sidemarkers & they still have the original color shining thru. Red in back & amber in front. Not sure what happened to yours.

It might just be my front side markers are more orange or maybe just a bit thicker than you guys who say you have had no problems. I don't think the LS1 f-body cars will have a problem. What about you 93-97 f-body owners? Those front turn signals are really orange. Someone said they had a 94 that is having this issue.

that would be me and I am having an issue with cloudiness of the brake lights. they are really dark and also when you look at them from the side the look kinda foggy.
i am wondering if that is a clear coat issue ie to much and if so should i wet sand them or buff them to get the cloudiness out
one thing i can think of is that i had taken out the red lenses to make them clear.should i replace the lenses. will that make the red show through more rather than red bulbs.

cloudy is normal with niteshades unless you are very careful when you apply it. you have to keep a solid glassy look to it the whole time when you are spraying it on. it will look like you have sprayed too much on. then you have to keep it from running. if you can do that, it will dry with a glassy look.

you need to do all three. wetsand with like 2000 grit, then buff out with a BUFFER and the right type of compound, then clear coat and it'll look just like the black paint on the car. also, wetsanding will remove paint. so if its too dark for you now, wetsanding will lighten up the darkness. the more you wetsand, the thinner it'll get. just watch out for the edges cause the paint will come off quick there. it wont take much sanding at all and you'll see the "orangepeel" smoothing out as you go. this will leave you with a dull/sanded looking black. but fear not, the buffer will shine it right up no problem. I dont know jack **** about buffers, pads, or compounds. I had a painter at work do that and the clear coat for me. I am in the process of doin another set right now, I'll try to find out what kind of rubbing compound he uses, and what type pads and pass that info out. check this out.
I did up a set of freebie tail lights I got from a customer at work. the reverse lamps fogged up, so he bought new ones. thats the only reason Im doin this again. now doin the real taillights. oh, and they will scratch easily I figured out, as you can see.

jester1614, on your taillights, sand the niteshade starting at 1000. Could go 1500 or 2000 if you wanted to. Spray a coat of clear spray paint over them. Sand down the clear to 1500 or 2000 then buff it with whatever they use to buff paint with. Do something like that and it will make it shiny.

oh, and I forgot, mine looked cloudy like yours do before the buffing and clear. Ive figured out that this niteshade likes to be sprayed in thick coats, so it will flow together. I tried multiple thin coats before, thats why it looks cloudy. my new ones are solid black, but like a semigloss now, before the wetsand and buffing.

yep. cause you skipped the buffing stage that will make it shiney. the wetsanding will make it smooth, and the buffing will make it shine. then clear coat will give it depth and more shine/reflection like the cars paint.

I never sanded mine or buffed it. I just sprayed the VHT like said above. Almost looked like it was gonna run, but didn't. Put 2 coats on like that & then 3 coats of clear. Here is how it looks now. I think I kinda just got lucky is came out so smooth.
